Overview

The DeWALT DCPH820M1 20V MAX 22 in. Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer Kit is built for homeowners, landscapers, and maintenance crews who need extra reach for hedge trimming without stepping onto a ladder for every pass. This is a cordless pole hedge trimmer designed for trimming tall hedges, shaping large shrubs, and cutting back landscape overgrowth. Model Number: DCPH820M1. If your regular hedge trimmer comes up short on height or depth, this is the tool that closes that gap.

On the cutting end, DeWALT pairs a high output motor with a 22 in. hardened steel laser-cut dual-action blade rated at 2,800 strokes per minute. That matters because a longer blade covers more hedge in each pass, while the dual-action setup helps deliver fast, controlled cutting for cleaner results. The 1 in. cutting capacity and 1 in. cutting gap give this hedge trimmer the ability to handle heavier branches and dense growth that can slow down lighter-duty units.

The big selling point here is reach. With the shaft extended, the tool offers up to 12 ft. max reach. For trimming tall property lines, broad foundation shrubs, and the tops of mature hedges, that extra length saves setup time and keeps more of the work on the ground. Instead of repositioning a ladder every few feet, you can stay moving and keep the cut line more consistent.

The 7-position articulating head rotates up to 180 degrees, and that is what makes the reach usable instead of awkward. You can set the blade angle to trim hedge tops while keeping the shaft lower, or rotate it to work the face of a hedge without overextending your arms. On real trimming jobs, that adjustability helps with control, finish quality, and fatigue, especially when you are working along long runs of shrubs.

Because this is a cordless battery-powered hedge trimmer, you are not managing extension cords across landscaping, sidewalks, or wet grass. It runs on the DeWALT 20V MAX battery platform and this kit includes one 4.0 Ah battery and charger, so you have what you need to get started right out of the box. Source web data also lists a 60-minute battery run time, which gives buyers a useful reference point for routine hedge maintenance and cleanup work.

At 13.3 lb., this is not the kind of tool you buy for one-handed touch-up work, and it is not pretending to be. It is built for controlled two-handed trimming where reach matters more than compact size. The straight shaft layout, included shoulder strap, and articulating head all point to the same use case: getting blade access to places a standard hedge trimmer cannot comfortably reach.

This DeWALT pole hedge trimmer kit makes the most sense for property maintenance, landscaping crews, and homeowners with established hedges, screening plants, and tall ornamental growth. If you mostly trim small waist-high shrubs, a standard hedge trimmer may be easier. If you regularly need to shape taller hedges, cut the tops cleanly, and keep moving without cords, this kit is the smarter buy.

Trim High Hedges Without Climbing

The main reason to buy a pole hedge trimmer is simple: safer access and faster trimming on tall growth. The extended shaft lets you reach the top of taller hedges while keeping both feet on the ground for routine cutting.

• Up to 12 ft. max reach for higher hedge tops and deeper shrubs
• Straight shaft design helps extend blade access farther from the operator

Set the Blade Angle for Cleaner Passes

A long-reach trimmer only works well if the head can be positioned where the cut needs to happen. The articulating head helps you keep the blade flatter to the surface you are trimming, which makes it easier to shape hedge faces and tops evenly.

• 7-position head rotates up to 180 degrees
• Useful for tops, side walls, and awkward angles on mature shrubs

Built to Move Through Overgrowth Fast

This cordless hedge trimmer is set up for more than light touch-up work. The long blade, fast stroke rate, and 1 in. cutting capacity give it the ability to handle thicker hedge material and overgrown sections with fewer slow passes.

• 22 in. hardened steel laser-cut dual-action blade
• 2,800 strokes per minute with 1 in. cutting capacity

Pro Tip

When you are trimming hedge tops, rotate the articulating head so the blade stays flatter to the surface instead of lifting the whole shaft higher. You will get a straighter finish and your shoulders will thank you at the end of the job.

DeWALT DCPH820M1 Pole Hedge Trimmer Kit Gets the High Stuff Done

The DeWALT DCPH820M1 20V MAX 22 in. Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer Kit is the right pick when a standard hedge trimmer leaves you stretching, climbing, or making too many cleanup passes.

• Who it's for: Homeowners with tall hedges, landscapers maintaining property lines, and maintenance crews handling routine shrub and hedge work.
• Why it stands out: The combination of 12 ft. max reach, a 22 in. dual-action blade, and a 180 degree articulating head gives you real access and real cutting ability, not just extra length.
• Worth knowing: At 13.3 lb., this is a purpose-built reach tool, not a lightweight detail trimmer. If your work is mostly low, compact shrubs, a standard hedge trimmer will feel easier. If the job is height and reach, this is the better setup.
