Key Features

Control Under LoadThe DEWALT ANTI-ROTATION System helps shut the wheel down when a pinch, stall, or bind-up is sensed. That matters when you are grinding in awkward spots where a sudden kick can ruin the work or your grip. Built for Tight SpacesThis right angle die grinder is made to reach where bulkier tools and air hoses get in the way. The compact ATOMIC design gives you better access around exhaust work, brackets, and confined metalworking tasks. Fast Wheel StopThe electronic brake is designed to stop the wheel in less than 1 second after the trigger is released. That gives you quicker transitions between cuts, deburring, and repositioning.

Overview

The DEWALT DCG422B 20V MAX ATOMIC Right Angle Die Grinder is a cordless right angle die grinder built for grinding, deburring, surface prep, and light cutting in spots where bigger grinders or pneumatic tools are a pain to use. This is a die grinder designed for tight-space metalworking and general cleanup work. Model Number: DCG422B. If you work around pipe, exhaust, brackets, weld cleanup, or fabrication details, this tool is about getting into the space cleanly without dragging an air hose behind you.

What makes this one matter on the job is the mix of access, control, and cordless freedom. DEWALT rates it at up to 455 MWO, and the whole point of that number is simple: you get enough output to replace a lot of pneumatic die grinder work without being tied to a compressor. For mobile service, punch-list work, fabrication bays, and jobs where hose management slows you down, that is a real upgrade.

The safety and control package is not filler here. The DEWALT ANTI-ROTATION System is built to quickly stop the wheel when the tool senses a pinch, stall, or bind-up event, which helps reduce reactionary torque. On a right angle grinder being used under a vehicle, inside a cabinet, or around welded steel, that kind of protection matters because those are exactly the situations where the accessory can catch unexpectedly.

DEWALT also added an electronic brake designed to stop the wheel in less than 1 second after the trigger is released. That saves time when you are bouncing between grinding points, checking fitment, or moving from one edge to the next. It also makes the tool feel more controlled during repetitive work because you are not waiting around for the accessory to wind down.

From a design standpoint, this tool is built around access. The right angle head and compact ATOMIC form factor are meant for hard-to-reach areas, and DEWALT specifically positions it as a cordless alternative to pneumatic die grinders. The housing is glass-filled nylon to better stand up to oils and harmful solvents, which is a practical detail for automotive work, fab shops, and maintenance environments where clean bench conditions are not the reality.

The DEWALT DCG422B 20V MAX ATOMIC Right Angle Die Grinder uses a 1/4 inch collet and runs on the DEWALT 20V MAX battery platform. It is sold as a tool only, so batteries and charger are not included. It is also TOOL CONNECT Chip Ready, which means users already managing DEWALT equipment on a larger crew can add the chip separately for jobsite asset management and tool location tracking.

This is not the tool you buy for heavy stock removal like a full-size angle grinder. It is the tool you buy when access, control, and mobility are the job. It makes the most sense for automotive techs, metalworkers, welders, maintenance crews, remodelers, and contractors who need a cordless die grinder that can work in cramped areas without giving up the convenience of the 20V MAX system.

This die grinder slots into DeWALT's 20V MAX cordless lineup, so it's worth checking the full cordless grinder collection if you need a larger angle grinder alongside it for grinding and cutoff work.

Reach Into Tight Metalworking Spaces

If your work happens around exhaust, brackets, pipe, welds, or tucked-up fasteners, access is everything. The right angle layout lets you keep the tool where the work is instead of fighting the body of a larger grinder or routing an air hose around the job.

• Right angle die grinder format for confined work areas
• Compact ATOMIC design aimed at hard-to-reach applications
• Cordless setup helps replace pneumatic die grinder tasks without a compressor hose

More Control When the Accessory Binds

Small grinders often get used in awkward positions, and that is exactly when control features matter most. DEWALT built this one with protective electronics that help the tool react when things go sideways instead of leaving all the correction to your wrist.

• ANTI-ROTATION System helps stop the wheel during pinch, stall, or bind-up events
• Electronic brake is designed to stop the wheel in less than 1 second after trigger release
• Variable speed trigger gives you better control when starting on edges or delicate cleanup work

Fits the DEWALT Cordless System You Already Run

For DEWALT users, the real convenience is staying on one battery platform. You get a cordless metalworking tool that drops into the 20V MAX lineup instead of adding another charger, another hose setup, or another maintenance item to the truck.

• 20V MAX battery platform compatibility
• TOOL CONNECT Chip Ready for optional asset management support
• Glass-filled nylon housing helps handle oils and harmful solvents in rougher work environments
