Key Features

Brushless Power The brushless motor is built to hold speed under load, so this angle grinder keeps working when you lean on it for real grinding and cutting instead of bogging down. Built-In Protection Kickback Brake, E-CLUTCH, and overload protection give you more control when the wheel binds up and help protect the tool on tough cuts. Fast Guard Changes The tool-free guard setup saves time when you need to move from grinding to cutting, and the slide switch is easier to live with during longer runs.

Overview

The DEWALT DCG407B angle grinder is a cordless 4-1/2 inch grinder built for grinding and cutting on the jobsite without dragging a cord around. This is an angle grinder designed for metal grinding, cutting, and general fabrication work. Model Number: DCG407B. If you want a battery-powered grinder that stays compact, runs a slide switch for longer passes, and still brings real jobsite output, this is the one DEWALT aimed at day-to-day pro use.

What matters here is how the tool behaves under pressure. DEWALT built this model around a brushless motor that maintains constant speed under load, with up to 9,000 RPM at no load and up to 850 max watts out. In plain terms, that means more consistent wheel speed when you are cleaning welds, trimming pipe, knocking down rust, or making repeated cutoff passes. DEWALT also rates it for up to 56 cuts in 1/2 inch rebar per charge when used with a DCB205 battery and a DW8062 cutting wheel, which gives you a practical reference for real work instead of just a lab number.

This grinder is set up for common wheel sizes, accepting 4 inch to 5 inch wheels, with a 4.5 inch wheel diameter called out for the tool. That makes it a versatile fit for the kind of accessories most users already stock. The slide switch matters too. On a grinder, switch style is not a small detail. A slide switch is the better choice if you spend time on longer grinding passes because you are not squeezing a paddle the whole time. For repetitive deburring, edge cleanup, and surface prep, that makes the tool less tiring to run.

DEWALT also put real effort into keeping this grinder alive on dirty jobsites. Mesh screens help block debris from getting into the internal components, which is worth paying attention to if you work around grinding dust, scale, or metal fines. The tool also includes overload protection plus PERFORM & PROTECT anti-rotation features such as Kickback Brake and E-CLUTCH. Those features are there for the moments when a wheel binds or the tool gets twisted unexpectedly. They do not replace good technique, but they absolutely make a difference when conditions get ugly.

From a setup standpoint, the DCG407B keeps things straightforward. It includes a Type B guard for grinding plus a clip-on guard that converts the setup for cutting operations, and DEWALT added quick-change, tool-free guard removal so you are not wasting time hunting for a wrench every time the task changes. The side handle gives you the second point of contact you want for better control, and the spindle lock helps with wheel swaps. At about 4.87 lbs bare, it stays manageable for overhead or awkward-angle work without feeling like a toy.

This is a tool-only grinder, so batteries and charger are sold separately. It runs on the DEWALT 20V MAX battery platform, which is a big deal if you are already in that system and want to add a grinder without buying into another battery line. It is a strong fit for metalworking, mechanical trades, steel stud work, electrical crews doing strut and threaded rod cleanup, and contractors who need a grab-and-go cordless grinder for punch-list and service work. If your work is mostly light to medium grinding and cutting and you want cordless convenience with pro-grade features, this model makes a lot of sense.

Built for Cordless Metal Cutting

The big advantage with this cordless grinder is mobility without giving up the features you actually need for cutting and grinding steel. It is made for service calls, fabrication touch-ups, and jobsite work where dragging out an extension cord slows everything down.
