Keep Your 18V Tools Working This 18V to 20V battery adapter lets most DEWALT 18V tools run on 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries, so a good 18V tool does not get retired just because its batteries did. One Battery System Run older 18V tools and new 20V MAX tools off the same packs and the same charger instead of maintaining two battery platforms. 1.5Ah to 5.0Ah Packs DEWALT approves the adapter for 20V MAX batteries from 1.5Ah up to 5.0Ah XR, which covers the compact and mid-size packs most crews already own.

Overview

The DeWALT DCA1820 18v-to-20v Battery Adapter is a battery adapter for DEWALT 18V cordless tool owners who have moved to 20V MAX batteries. This is a battery adapter designed to let most DEWALT 18V tools run on 20V MAX lithium-ion battery packs. Model Number DCA1820 slides onto the 18V tool where the old battery went, and the 20V MAX battery slides onto the adapter.

The value is simple. Plenty of DEWALT 18V drills, saws, and specialty tools still run fine, but their 18V packs are worn out or hard to justify replacing. The adapter lets you keep using those tools with the DeWALT 20V MAX batteries and charger you already use for your newer tools. DEWALT's 20V MAX rating is the battery's maximum initial voltage; nominal voltage is 18V, which is why the two platforms can work together through an adapter.

Compatibility has limits, and they matter. DEWALT approves the DCA1820 for 20V MAX batteries in 1.5Ah, 2.0Ah, 3.0Ah, 4.0Ah, and 5.0Ah XR capacities only. It does not work with 20V/60V MAX FLEXVOLT batteries. DEWALT also warns against using premium 20V MAX batteries in the DC970 and DC759 18V tools with this adapter. Batteries must be charged on a 20V MAX charger.

Who should buy it? Contractors, maintenance techs, and DIY users with a shelf of working DEWALT 18V tools who have switched to 20V MAX for everything new. It costs far less than replacing a working tool, and it lets you retire the 18V chargers and batteries.

Slides On Where the 18V Pack Went

The adapter fills the 18V battery socket and gives the tool a 20V MAX slide-on battery connection. Swap packs between your 18V and 20V MAX tools without a second charger.

• Works with most DEWALT 18V tools
• Pairs well with mid-size packs like the DCB205 20V MAX 5.0Ah battery

The DeWALT DCA1820 Battery Adapter Gives 18V Tools a Second Life

If your 18V tools still run and your 18V batteries do not, this adapter is the cheapest fix there is.

• Who it's for: Anyone with working DEWALT 18V tools who has moved to the 20V MAX platform.
• Why it stands out: One battery system and one charger for old and new tools, with no tool replacement required.
• Worth knowing: Stick to 20V MAX packs of 5.0Ah or less; FLEXVOLT batteries will not work. Compact packs like the DCB203 20V MAX 2.0Ah battery keep lighter 18V tools from getting top-heavy.
