Key Features

Better Fastener Grip DirectTorque technology is built to grip the flats of the fastener instead of loading the corners as hard. That helps reduce rounding when you are working on smaller SAE hardware. Chrome Vanadium Build The chrome vanadium steel construction gives this socket the strength and wear resistance you want in a daily-use hand tool. The polished chrome finish also helps protect against chipping and flaking. Compact SAE Socket This DEWALT standard socket pairs a 5/32 inch size with a 1/4 inch drive, making it a practical fit for small fasteners, light mechanical work, and tight access spots where bulky sockets get in the way.

Overview

The DEWALT 5/32 Inch - 1/4 Inch Drive 6-Point Imperial Standard Socket, model DWMT86021OSP, is a single SAE hand socket built for small fasteners that need a secure fit without chewing up the corners. This is a standard socket designed for fastening and removing 5/32 inch imperial fasteners with a 1/4 inch drive ratchet, extension, or socket wrench. If you do light mechanical work, tool maintenance, small equipment service, or general shop tasks, this is the kind of socket that earns its keep by fitting correctly and holding up over time.

What matters most on a socket this size is fit. DEWALT uses 6-point geometry along with DirectTorque technology to help the socket contact the flats of the fastener more effectively. In plain terms, that means better grip and less chance of rounding off smaller bolt heads and nuts, which is especially important when you are dealing with older hardware, limited access, or fasteners that have already seen some abuse.

The chrome vanadium steel construction gives the socket the toughness expected from a mechanic-style hand tool, while the polished chrome finish helps resist chipping and flaking. That matters in a box full of tools where sockets get knocked around, slid on rails, and handled with greasy hands. Hard-stamped size markings also make this socket easier to identify than sockets that rely on light etching that wears off too quickly.

DEWALT also adds a knurled control ring near the base. That detail sounds small, but it makes a difference when you are starting a fastener by hand or pulling a socket out of a crowded tray with oily fingers. On small sockets, grip matters, and a little texture saves time and frustration.

Because this is a standard hand socket, it is a good match for 1/4 inch drive hand tools where compact size and control matter more than brute force. The 5/32 inch size is aimed at SAE hardware, so it belongs in an imperial socket lineup for automotive trim work, small engine service, shop fixtures, and general repair around the garage or bench.

Who should buy it? Anyone filling out a serious 1/4 inch drive socket set, replacing a missing size, or keeping dedicated sizes on hand for repeat service work. If you work on smaller fasteners and want a 6-point socket that grips well, reads clearly, and does not feel like disposable filler, this one makes sense.

• 1/4 inch drive size fits compact ratchets and extensions used for light mechanical service
• Knurled ring helps with hand-starting and removal when your hands are slick

Small Socket, Real Toolbox Value

The DEWALT 5/32 Inch - 1/4 Inch Drive 6-Point Imperial Standard Socket is exactly what a good single socket should be: correct fit, clear markings, and durable enough to stay in rotation instead of getting replaced every few months.

• Who it's for: Mechanics, maintenance techs, and serious DIY users who need a dependable SAE socket for smaller fasteners.
• Why it stands out: The 6-point design, DirectTorque geometry, and knurled ring are the details that actually matter when the fastener is small and easy to damage.
• Worth knowing: This is one single standard socket, not a set and not an impact-rated socket, so buy it to fill a gap or keep a dedicated size where you use it most.
