Key Features

Better Fastener Grip DirectTorque technology is built to help prevent rounding fasteners. That matters when you're leaning on stuck hardware and do not want the socket slipping off the flats. Chrome Vanadium Build The chrome vanadium steel construction is made for strength and durability. It is the kind of material choice you want in a daily-use hand socket that gets tossed in a mechanic's drawer and used hard. Easy to Handle A knurled control ring gives you extra grip when starting or removing fasteners by hand. The hard-stamped size markings are also easier to read over time than markings that wear off.

Overview

DEWALT DWMT86028OSP 6 Point 1/4'' Drive Socket 3/8'' SAE is a single SAE hand socket built for turning 3/8 inch fasteners with a 1/4 inch square drive ratchet or handle. This is a socket designed for fastening and mechanical service work. Model Number: DWMT86028OSP. It is a straightforward piece, but it covers one of the most common needs in light automotive, equipment, appliance, and general shop work.

The big selling point here is the 6-point socket design paired with DEWALT's DirectTorque technology. In practical use, that means the socket is made to grip the flat sides of the fastener better instead of loading the corners as aggressively. If you are working on older hardware, slightly stubborn bolts, or fasteners you do not want to damage, that is the feature that matters most.

DEWALT also built this socket from chrome vanadium steel, which is the right material for a hand socket that needs to hold up to repeated use without feeling disposable. The polished chrome finish helps resist chipping and flaking while making cleanup easier when the socket picks up grease and grime. For shop drawers, road boxes, or home garages, that finish is practical, not cosmetic.

Small details make a difference on a tool like this. The knurled control ring gives you a little more grip when you are threading a fastener by hand before putting a ratchet on it. The chamfered opening helps the socket start onto the fastener more easily, which saves a little fumbling in tight spots. Hard-stamped markings are another real-world benefit because the size stays identifiable after the socket has been used and handled for a long time.

This DEWALT socket is best suited for mechanics, maintenance techs, installers, and serious DIY users who want an individual replacement or need to fill a specific gap in a socket rail. It is also a good fit for anyone building out a 1/4 inch drive socket set one size at a time instead of buying a full kit. If you already work with SAE hardware and want a compact 3/8 inch socket that is easy to identify and built for repeat use, this is the kind of piece worth keeping close.
