Key Features

Protects Fasteners DirectTorque technology helps reduce fastener rounding, which matters when you are working on small hardware that is easy to damage. Better Socket Grip The knurled control ring gives you more hold when starting or removing the socket by hand, especially when your fingers are oily or gloved. Deep Reach Socket This DEWALT deep socket gives you extra reach over studs and long-threaded fasteners while keeping a compact 1/4 inch drive format for smaller hardware.

Overview

The DEWALT DWMT88964OSP 1/4 in Drive 3/16 in SAE 6-Point Deep Socket is a single deep socket built for tightening and removing small SAE fasteners with better control and less risk of rounding. This is a deep socket designed for fastening applications where extra reach is needed over studs or recessed nuts. Model Number: DWMT88964OSP.

What makes this socket worth buying is how it handles the details that usually separate a decent hand tool from one you keep reaching for. The 6-point design gives more secure contact on the flats of the fastener, which is the right call when you want to protect corners on smaller hardware. DEWALT also uses DirectTorque technology to help reduce fastener rounding, so you are less likely to chew up a stubborn nut just because the socket fit was sloppy.

The deep pattern matters if you are working on longer bolts, threaded rod, or hardware that sits down inside a recess. A standard socket can bottom out before it fully seats. A deep socket gives you the clearance to get all the way onto the fastener, which means better engagement and fewer slipped corners. For automotive trim work, small mechanical assemblies, and general shop fastening, that is a real advantage.

DEWALT added a knurled control ring around the body, and that is one of those simple features you appreciate every time you grab the socket off an extension or start a fastener by hand. It gives you more grip without needing to pinch a smooth chrome body. The beveled entry also helps the socket start onto the fastener more easily, which saves time when you are moving quickly through repetitive work.

Long-term usability is also part of the design. The hard-stamped size markings are there so the socket stays identifiable after real use instead of losing the size callout once the finish gets handled, wiped down, and bounced around a toolbox. The full polished chrome vanadium finish is built to resist chipping and flaking in tougher shop conditions, so it is a practical choice for anyone who wants a cleanable, corrosion-resistant hand socket for regular use.

This socket is a good fit for mechanics, technicians, maintenance crews, and serious DIY users who already work with a 1/4 inch drive ratchet or extension and need a 3/16 inch SAE deep socket that does not waste space in the drawer. If you are working on small fasteners and want clean fit, better grip, and the extra reach of a deep socket, this is exactly the kind of piece that earns its spot in the set.

Extra Reach for Small Fasteners

On smaller hardware, fit and control matter more than brute force. This deep socket is built to seat cleanly on 3/16 inch SAE fasteners while giving you the extra length needed for protruding studs and recessed nuts.

• 6-point opening helps keep better contact on the flats of the fastener
• Knurled ring makes it easier to handle the socket during setup and removal
• Beveled entry helps guide the socket onto the fastener faster

Pro Tip

If you are working on a long stud, use the deep socket first to make sure you are fully seated before adding more leverage with a ratchet. That extra second helps the 6-point opening do its job and keeps you from rounding small hardware.

DEWALT DWMT88964OSP Deep Socket Done Right

The DEWALT DWMT88964OSP is the kind of single socket you buy once and keep in rotation because it fits right, grips well, and handles small fasteners without drama.

• Who it's for: Mechanics, technicians, and DIY users who need a 3/16 inch SAE deep socket for 1/4 inch drive hand tools.
• Why it stands out: The combination of a 6-point opening, DirectTorque design, knurled ring, and hard-stamped markings makes it more useful than a bare-bones chrome socket.
• Worth knowing: This is a single socket, not a set, so it is best for filling a missing size or building out a more complete drawer one piece at a time.
