Key Features

1/4 Inch Drive Fit This DeWalt socket is built for 1/4 inch drive ratchets and extensions, making it a practical choice for lighter fastening work where a compact hand socket matters. 6-Point Grip The 6-point opening and DirectTorque design help grab the flats of the fastener more securely, which can reduce rounding on stubborn nuts and bolts. Easy to Handle A knurled control ring gives you extra grip when starting or removing the socket by hand, and the hard-stamped size marking stays readable longer than printed markings.

Overview

The DeWalt DWMT86109OSP 1/4 in Drive 12 mm 6-Point Standard Socket is a compact hand socket for turning 12 mm fasteners with a 1/4 inch drive ratchet or extension. This is a standard socket designed for light-duty fastening and mechanical work. Model Number: DWMT86109OSP. If you spend your time on small fasteners in automotive work, equipment service, or general shop tasks, this is the kind of piece you want in the drawer because it does one job cleanly and without drama.

What matters here is the combination of a 6-point opening and DeWalt's DirectTorque design. In plain terms, that means the socket is made to put force where it belongs on the fastener instead of beating up the corners. That matters most when you're working on bolts that have already seen some wear, or when you're breaking something loose and do not want the socket slipping and rounding the head.

The standard-depth body is the right call for common access situations where you do not need a deep socket. It keeps the profile shorter and more controlled, which usually means better feel through the ratchet and less wobble in tighter working areas. For routine service work, assembly, and teardown, a standard socket like this is often the faster choice.

DeWalt also added a knurled control ring around the base, and that is one of those simple details that makes a difference more often than people think. When your hands are oily, gloved, or you're starting the socket by hand before putting a ratchet on it, that textured band gives you a better grip. The chamfered opening helps guide the socket onto the fastener with less fiddling, which saves a little time every time you reach for it.

On durability, the chrome vanadium construction and chrome finish are there for a reason. The material gives the socket the strength expected from a shop-grade hand tool, while the finish helps protect against chipping and flaking. Hard-stamped size markings are another practical win. You are not hunting for a faded laser mark after a few months in a box with the rest of your sockets.

This DeWalt socket makes the most sense for mechanics, maintenance techs, industrial users, and serious DIYers who want a dependable 1/4 inch drive socket for 12 mm hardware. It is especially useful if you are filling gaps in an existing socket set or replacing a frequently used size with something from a reputable hand tool line. If you need reach for recessed fasteners, step up to a deep socket. If you need a compact everyday 12 mm socket for controlled hand-tool work, this is the right style.

Better Grip on Worn Fasteners

This DeWalt DWMT86109OSP 1/4 in Drive 12 mm 6-Point Standard Socket is built for the kind of everyday fastening work where control matters more than brute force. The 6-point design and DirectTorque profile are there to hold the fastener more securely and help reduce corner damage.

• 6-point opening for stronger contact on hex fasteners
• DirectTorque design helps reduce fastener rounding
• Standard socket depth keeps the profile compact and easy to control

Pro Tip

If a 12 mm fastener has any corrosion or rounded edges starting, grab this 6-point socket instead of a 12-point. You will usually get better bite on the flats and a better chance of getting it loose without making the hardware worse.
