Overview

The Bosch GWS18V-45 18V 4-1/2 In. Angle Grinder is a cordless angle grinder built for cutting and grinding metal on the job or in the shop. This is a cordless angle grinder designed for metal cutting and grinding applications. Model Number: GWS18V-45. It is aimed at trade pros and serious users who want Bosch 18V portability without stepping down too far in usable power.

The big selling point here is simple: speed and portability. Bosch rates this grinder at 10,000 no-load RPM, which is where a 4-1/2 inch grinder needs to be for clean cutoff work and fast material removal. In practical terms, that means it is set up to handle common metalworking tasks like cutting threaded rod, trimming angle iron, cleaning welds, and knocking down burrs without having to drag out a cord.

Bosch uses a four-brush motor and an optimized gear structure to balance output with runtime. That matters more than it sounds. A cordless grinder that only feels strong for a few seconds is frustrating. This setup is designed to stay useful through real grinding tasks, not just quick touch-up work. The lifetime brush design is also there for durability, which is worth paying attention to on a grinder since these tools live in dust, heat, and heavy load.

Control is another strong point. The two-position vibration control side handle gives you options depending on your cut angle and working position, and it helps keep the tool more comfortable during longer passes. Bosch also added a large spindle lock to make wheel changes easier, which is one of those small details that saves time when you are swapping accessories mid-job.

On the safety and protection side, this grinder includes a burst-resistant wheel guard and restart protection. That restart feature helps prevent accidental startup after a battery change, which is exactly the kind of thing you want on a tool that spends time on ladders, lifts, and crowded work areas. Bosch also calls out Electronic Cell Protection and Electronic Motor Protection, both intended to help the battery and motor hold up better under load.

This version is sold as a bare tool, so it makes the most sense for users already on Bosch's 18V cordless lineup. If you already have Bosch batteries and chargers, this is an easy add for service trucks, punch lists, fab work, electrical installs, plumbing support work, and general metal cleanup. If you need a compact cordless grinder for regular metal cutting and grinding without overcomplicating the setup, this one checks the right boxes.
