Key Features

Tight-Space Ratchets The 144-tooth ratchets give you a 2.5 degree arc swing, so you can keep turning fasteners where a standard ratchet runs out of room. More Grip on Rounded Fasteners Powerjaw sockets and wrenches are built to put more torque on worn hardware, which helps when old bolts do not want to cooperate. Complete 3-Drive Set This DEWALT mechanics tool set covers 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, and 1/2 inch drive work in one case, so you are not bouncing between separate kits.

Overview

The DEWALT DWMT45417 3-Drive Mechanics Tool Set is a 242-piece hand tool set built for mechanics, maintenance work, equipment service, and serious garage use. This is a mechanics tool set designed for fastening, loosening, and servicing a wide range of nuts, bolts, and threaded hardware. Model Number: DWMT45417. If you want one case that handles light duty small fasteners and larger stubborn hardware without piecing together separate socket sets, this is the kind of setup that makes sense.

What matters most here is coverage. You get three ratchet drive sizes, assorted standard and deep sockets in metric and SAE, combination wrenches, bit sockets, Torx bit sockets, hex keys, extensions, adapters, universal joints, screwdriver bits, and nut bits. In real use, that means this set is not just for one job type. It can handle routine automotive service, shop assembly, equipment maintenance, and general repair work where you need reach, size options, and the ability to switch from a small fastener to a larger one without leaving the case.

The ratchets are one of the real selling points. DEWALT uses a 144-tooth dual pawl design with a 2.5 degree arc swing, which is exactly the kind of spec that matters when you are working around engine bays, frames, suspension parts, machinery guards, or crowded assemblies. Less swing needed means less repositioning, and less repositioning means faster work when access is poor. DEWALT also claims 4 times longer life compared to its earlier ratchets, so this is aimed at users who actually put a ratchet through repeated daily use.

The sockets and wrenches use Powerjaw technology for 30% more torque on rounded fasteners. That matters when hardware is worn, corroded, or already partially chewed up from previous work. Instead of giving up grip as soon as the corners are less than perfect, the design is intended to hold better where a lot of cheaper sets start slipping. For automotive and maintenance work, that is not a small feature. Rounded fasteners are where jobs slow down.

DEWALT also paid attention to wrench usability. The combination wrenches have a 15 degree offset for better access in tight spaces, and the long panel forging is designed to help maximize torque. In plain terms, you get a little more room for your hand and a little more leverage without stepping up to a much bulkier wrench. That makes a difference when you are trying to break something loose without skinning your knuckles on nearby parts.

Build quality is set up for real shop conditions. The tools use chrome vanadium steel for strength and a full-polish chrome finish to help resist corrosion. The quick-release ratchet design also makes one-handed socket changes easier, which is useful when the other hand is steadying a part or working in an awkward position. High-visibility stamped size markings are another simple but important detail. You spend less time hunting for the right size and more time actually turning fasteners.

Organization is another strong point. A 242-piece set only helps if the pieces stay sorted, and this one is packed in a durable hard case for storage and transport. For anyone outfitting a service truck, shop cabinet, trailer, or home garage, that means less loose hardware rolling around and a better shot at keeping the full set together over time. Since this is a hand tool kit rather than a battery platform product, there is no charger or battery system to worry about. Open the case and get to work.

Who should buy it? If you regularly work on vehicles, machinery, shop equipment, trailers, or general repair jobs, this set makes a lot of sense because it covers the sizes and accessories that come up all the time. It is also a strong fit for someone building out a main mechanics set in one purchase instead of collecting random pieces over time. If you only need a few sockets for occasional household tasks, it is more kit than you need. But if you want a serious DEWALT socket and ratchet set with broad coverage, good ratchets, and a lifetime warranty, this is a practical buy.

Broad Coverage in One Case

This set is built to replace the usual pile of half-complete socket kits. With three drive sizes and a deep accessory mix, it covers a wide range of repair and maintenance work from small fasteners to larger hardware.

• 242 total pieces in a single organized mechanics tool set
• Includes 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, and 1/2 inch drive ratchets, sockets, and accessories
• Mix of standard and deep sockets in metric and SAE sizes

Built for Real Fastener Work

The details here are aimed at stubborn hardware and cramped access, which is where a decent set separates itself from a cheap one. Better grip, tighter ratchet swing, and offset wrenches all help you keep moving when the job gets annoying.

• Powerjaw technology provides 30% more torque on rounded fasteners
• 144-tooth dual pawl ratchets deliver a 2.5 degree arc swing for tight spaces
• Combination wrenches use a 15 degree offset for improved access

Pro Tip

Use the 1/4 inch drive tools for trim hardware and small fasteners, move to 3/8 inch for most everyday work, and save the 1/2 inch drive for higher-torque jobs. That keeps you from overloading smaller tools and makes the whole set work the way it was meant to.

Warranty & Support

Full Lifetime Warranty. DEWALT states that if any DEWALT mechanics tool ever fails for any reason, DEWALT will replace it.
