Overview

The Knipex 9K 00 80 143 US 4 Pc Cobra Pliers Set is a four-piece water pump pliers set built for gripping, turning, and adjusting pipe, fittings, nuts, and irregular shapes. This is a water pump pliers set designed for plumbing, mechanical service, and general fastening work where a standard adjustable wrench does not give you enough bite or speed. Model Number: 9K 00 80 143 US.

What makes this set matter is coverage. You are not buying one pair and hoping it does everything. You get four Knipex Cobra sizes: 87 01 125 at 5 inches, 87 01 180 at 7-1/4 inches, 87 01 250 at 10 inches, and 87 01 300 at 12 inches. That range lets you move from small shutoff valves and tight cabinet work to larger pipe and hex fittings without overworking one tool or reaching for the wrong size.

The Cobra design is popular for a reason. The push-button adjustment lets you size the jaws right on the workpiece, which is faster than walking a slip-joint through positions and hoping you land close enough. Fine adjustment helps the jaws fit different shapes more cleanly, and the self-locking action on pipes and nuts means the pliers resist slipping under load. In real use, that saves hand fatigue and gives you better control when a fitting is stubborn or in an awkward spot.

Knipex backs that up with the details that actually affect how the tool works. The gripping surfaces use specially hardened teeth with an approximate hardness of 61 HRC for low wear and reliable hold. The box-joint design adds stability through a double guide, which is a big deal on pliers like this because it helps keep the jaws aligned when you are leaning on them. There is also a pinch guard to help keep fingers out of trouble during adjustment.

Material quality is where these separate themselves from throwaway pliers. The set is made from chrome vanadium electric steel that is forged and oil-hardened. The jaws are polished, the finish is grey atramentized, and the handles use a non-slip plastic coating. That gives you the toughness expected from a pro-grade gripping tool along with handles that stay manageable when your hands are wet, dirty, or gloved up.

Capacity is strong across the set. The 5 inch pliers handle up to 1-1/16 inch round pipe and hex. The 7-1/4 inch pliers go up to 1-1/2 inch round pipe and 1-27/64 inch hex. The 10 inch pliers reach 2 inch round pipe and 1-3/4 inch hex. The 12 inch pliers top out at 2-3/4 inch round pipe and 2-3/64 inch hex. That spread makes this set useful for service trucks, shop benches, maintenance carts, and plumbers who want the right jaw size ready instead of one oversized pair trying to do everything.

The Knipex 9K 00 80 143 US 4 Pc Cobra Pliers Set is a strong fit for plumbers, HVAC techs, mechanics, maintenance crews, and serious DIY users who want reliable gripping tools instead of generic slip-joint pliers. If you work on valves, compression fittings, pipe, locknuts, pumps, or rounded fasteners, this set gives you the grip, adjustability, and size range that make everyday service work go smoother.

Grip Pipe and Fittings With Less Fuss

These pliers are built for the kind of work where rounded surfaces and cramped access make ordinary wrenches annoying. The self-locking jaw action helps the tool stay engaged on pipe and nuts so you can focus on turning the fitting instead of fighting the grip.

• Self-locking on pipes and nuts for reduced hand force
• Serrated gripping surfaces for dependable bite on smooth and worn hardware

Dial In the Fit Fast

The Cobra jaw shape is useful because it adapts to more than just round pipe. Square stock, hex fittings, and flat material all sit securely when the jaws are adjusted correctly, which makes this set handy well beyond plumbing work.

• Fine adjustment supports a more exact fit on different workpiece sizes
• Works across round pipe, hex fasteners, and irregular shapes

Built Like a Real Shop Tool

The little things matter on pliers you use every day. The box-joint build improves stability, the hinge bolt is secured against unintentional shifting, and the push-button release is easy to work even when you are moving fast from one fitting size to the next.

• Box-joint construction adds strength and alignment under load
• Reliable hinge bolt retention helps prevent accidental adjustment changes

Pro Tip

Set the Cobra on the fitting first, then close the adjustment one notch tighter than looks necessary before you load it. That lets the self-locking jaw do its job and keeps you from over-squeezing the handles.
