Key Features

Extra-Stiff Blade The thicker steel blade holds up better in daily use and gives this tape measure a more solid feel when you extend it. That matters when you are measuring solo and want the blade to stay usable instead of folding up right away. Dual-Sided Readability The blade is marked on both sides, so inside, overhead, and awkward-angle measurements are easier to read without twisting your wrist or flipping the tape around. Armored Housing The elastomer-armored case and protected hook are built for drops, bumps, and jobsite abuse. If your tape lives on your belt all day, that added protection is the point.

Overview

Tajima GS-16BW GS-Lock Standard Scale 16-ft. Tape Measure is a compact heavy-duty tape built for accurate layout, daily measuring, and repeat use on the job. This is a tape measure designed for general measuring, layout, and material marking. Model Number: GS-16BW. With a 16 ft blade length, 1 in blade width, dual-sided markings, and a slide lock, it is aimed at carpenters, finish crews, remodelers, installers, and serious DIY users who want a tape that reads clearly and survives getting knocked around.

What sets this one apart is not just the length. Tajima builds the GS-Lock around an extra-stiff steel blade and a reinforced hook system it calls Strong Tape and Strong Hook. The hook is listed at 1/16" (1.5 mm) thick and rated at 4.7 times stronger than standard Tajima hooks. In practical use, that means the end takes more abuse from catches, pulls, and everyday drops before it starts getting bent out of shape. Accuracy is listed at plus or minus 1/16 in, which is what buyers care about most in a tape measure: dependable readings and a hook that stays true.

The blade is marked on both sides, which is one of those features that sounds simple until you use it all day. When you are measuring overhead, reading a mark from the back side, or working around installed trim, pipe, or framing, dual-sided printing saves time and reduces the little hand adjustments that slow you down. The standard scale format also keeps the layout straightforward and easy to read for users who do not want crowded specialty markings getting in the way.

The case design is built around durability and grip. It has an armored, shock-resistant elastomer case with added protection around the housing, end hooks, and nearby work surfaces. That matters if your tape measure spends its life clipped to a pocket, knocked against ladders, dropped on concrete, or sliding around in a tool bag. The body is compact enough for everyday carry, but it is clearly designed more like a professional-use tape than a bargain-bin layout tool.

Jobsite practicality is where this Tajima tape measure earns its keep. The slide lock gives you positive blade control when you need to hold a measurement, and the included belt clip keeps it accessible. There is also a safety rope tether mount with ring, which is a useful touch for ladder work, lifts, and any situation where dropped tools become a problem. Tajima also adds an end hook guard to help protect one of the first areas that usually gets damaged on a tape.

The blade material is steel, and it is acrylic-coated. That coating matters because it helps the markings last longer under regular contact with material edges, jobsite debris, and routine wipe-downs. If you are using a tape around tile, finished lumber, sheet goods, metal studs, or trim stock, readable markings over time are just as important as blade stiffness on day one.

Who should buy it? If you want a compact 16 ft tape that leans hard into durability, hook strength, and easy readability, this is a smart pick. It makes the most sense for finish carpentry, punch-list work, cabinet and trim installs, remodeling, service work, and general layout where a 16 ft tape is easier to carry than a bulkier 25 ft model. If you constantly need extra reach across framing bays or long exterior spans, you may want a longer tape. But for a lot of day-to-day measuring, this Tajima GS-16BW GS-Lock Standard Scale 16-ft. Tape Measure is the kind of tool that feels built for people who use it every day, not once a month.

Built to Stay Accurate Longer

This tape is set up for the part that matters most: getting a reliable measurement without babying the tool. The thicker blade and reinforced hook are meant to keep working after the bumps and pulls that usually knock cheaper tapes out of shape.

• Accuracy listed at plus or minus 1/16 in
• 1/16" (1.5 mm) Strong Hook is rated 4.7 times stronger than standard Tajima hooks

Easy to Read From Either Side

Dual-sided markings make this a better everyday tape for awkward reads, overhead checks, and inside measurements. You spend less time rolling the case around just to verify a mark.

• Dual-sided blade helps with overhead and reverse-angle reading
• 1 in blade width gives the scale enough room to stay readable

Ready for Belt Carry and Daily Abuse

The housing is one of the big reasons people step up to this model. The elastomer armor adds grip and impact protection, while the tether point and belt clip make it easier to carry in real work conditions.

• Shock-resistant armored case helps protect the housing from drops
• Includes belt clip and safety rope tether mount with ring
