Key Features

1/4 Inch Drive Fit This DeWalt socket is sized for 1/4 inch drive ratchets, extensions, and handles, so it fits the light-duty fastening work where compact access matters most. Chrome Vanadium Build Premium chrome vanadium steel gives the socket the strength and durability you want in a hand tool that is going to live in a drawer, roll cart, or service bag. Better Grip by Hand Knurled beauty rings help reduce hand slippage when you are starting or removing the socket without a ratchet attached, which saves a little frustration on repetitive work.

Overview

The DeWalt DWMT86104OSP Mechanics 6 Point 1/4 Drive Socket 7 MM is a single metric hand socket built for turning 7 mm fasteners with a 1/4 inch drive ratchet or extension. This is a socket designed for hand fastening and mechanical service work. Model Number: DWMT86104OSP. If you need a compact socket for smaller hardware in automotive, equipment, or general shop work, this is the size and drive combination that makes sense.

This DeWalt socket uses a 6-point opening, which matters because a 6-point socket puts contact where it counts on the flats of the fastener instead of crowding the corners. In real use, that helps with grip and reduces the chance of rounding off smaller nuts and bolts, especially when the fastener is already worn or has seen some corrosion.

The 1/4 inch drive size tells you where this socket belongs in your setup. It is meant for lighter-duty fastening, tighter access, and smaller hardware where a bigger ratchet would just get in the way. Paired with the 7 mm size, it is a practical fit for service work, panel fasteners, brackets, hose clamp hardware, and other smaller metric applications where control matters more than brute force.

DeWalt builds the DWMT86104OSP from chrome vanadium steel for strength and long-term durability. That is the standard you want in a mechanics socket because it holds up to repeated engagement without feeling disposable. The polished chrome finish adds another practical advantage by helping protect against chipping and flaking while also making cleanup easier when the socket picks up grease and shop grime.

There are a couple of small design touches here that make day-to-day use better. The knurled beauty rings give you a little extra grip when you are spinning the socket by hand, which is useful when you are threading onto a fastener before the ratchet goes to work. DeWalt also calls out hard stamped markings, which is worth noting because clear size identification saves time when you are moving fast and grabbing from a crowded socket rail or drawer.

DeWalt also lists DirectTorque technology on this socket. The practical takeaway is simple: it is designed to grip fasteners more effectively and help prevent rounding. On a small socket like this, that matters. Smaller metric fasteners do not give you much room for error, and a better grip can be the difference between a clean removal and a stripped-out headache.

This is not a kit and it is not trying to be one. You are getting a single 7 mm socket for users who need this exact size, whether that means replacing a lost piece from a set or building out a service drawer one size at a time. For mechanics, maintenance techs, and serious DIY users who know exactly what size they need, that is often the smarter buy than paying for duplicates in a bigger set.

If your work regularly involves compact ratchets, smaller metric hardware, and controlled hand fastening, the DeWalt DWMT86104OSP Mechanics 6 Point 1/4 Drive Socket 7 MM is the right kind of simple: correct size, durable material, solid grip, and a design focused on doing one job well.
