Key Features

1000V Protection Built for energized work where insulated hand tools matter. The 1000V rating helps electricians and maintenance techs work with the right level of protection when the job calls for insulated fastening tools. Visual Wear Warning The dual-layer insulation is not just there for protection. It also gives you a clear visual cue when the outer layer is worn and the screwdriver should be replaced. Jobsite-Ready Grip The Milwaukee insulated screwdriver uses a flame-retardant, impact-resistant handle and shank design with visible markings and lanyard holes, so it is easier to identify, carry, and keep in service on active jobsites.

Overview

The Milwaukee 48-22-2242 #2 ECX 6" 1000V Insulated Screwdriver is a professional insulated screwdriver built for electrical fastening work where tool insulation and compliance matter. This is a screwdriver designed for electrical service, panel work, and other fastening tasks around energized environments. Model Number 48-22-2242. If you need a hand tool that is built specifically for electricians and service techs, this one is made to give you the correct tip style along with 1000V insulated protection.

What makes this tool matter is not just the insulation rating, but the standards behind it. Milwaukee states this screwdriver is UL Classified and tested to IEC 60900:2012, ASTM F1505-10, and NFPA 70E standards, and it meets OSHA insulated tool requirements. That is the kind of detail that separates a real insulated electrical screwdriver from a regular driver with a red handle. If you are working in electrical panels, controls, or service applications, that certification stack is a big deal.

The #2 ECX tip is a practical choice for electricians because it is intended for combination head fasteners commonly found in electrical hardware. That means better engagement in the screw head and less fighting the fastener compared to using the wrong profile. On the job, that usually translates into cleaner starts, fewer stripped heads, and less slipping when you are working in a box, cabinet, or panel where control matters.

Milwaukee also built this insulated screwdriver for real jobsite wear. The handle and shank are described as flame retardant and impact resistant, which matters when the tool spends its life riding in a pouch, getting tossed in a bag, or working around rough site conditions. The visible ID markings help with quick selection when you have multiple drivers in the pouch, and the lanyard holes are there to help prevent drops while also protecting the insulation from getting chewed up by bad storage habits.

One of the smarter details here is the dual-layer insulation. That is more than a spec sheet talking point. It gives you a visual wear indication so you know when the tool has taken enough abuse that it is time to replace it. For a safety-focused hand tool, that is exactly the kind of feature you want because it helps you make a clear call before damage turns into risk.

In hand, this is still a simple manual fastening tool, and that is a good thing. No moving parts, no ratcheting mechanism, no extra bulk. Just an insulated screwdriver with a long shaft for access and the certifications to back up its intended use. At roughly 0.29 lb and about 10 in overall length, it stays easy to carry while still giving you reach into deeper boxes and tighter electrical spaces.

This Milwaukee screwdriver is best suited for electricians, industrial maintenance crews, facility technicians, and serious DIY users doing electrical work who need an insulated driver instead of a standard shop screwdriver. If you are mainly doing general wood screw work, this is more specialized than you need. But if you deal with electrical hardware regularly, the insulated build, #2 ECX tip, and compliance credentials make it the right tool for the task.

Built for Electrical Fastening

This insulated screwdriver is built for the kind of fastening work where correct tip fit and certified insulation are both non-negotiable. It is a purpose-built electrical hand tool, not a general-use driver dressed up to look the part.

Pro Tip

Check the insulation before it goes back in the pouch. The dual-layer insulation is there to give you a visual wear warning, so if the outer layer is damaged enough to expose the warning layer, pull the screwdriver from service and replace it.
