Overview

Mirka Polarshine 20 1.1 qt (1 L) Polishing Compound, Model PC20-1L, is a medium-coarse polishing compound made for scratch removal and paint correction. This is a polishing compound designed for removing scratches from fresh and soft clear coats. If you are doing automotive detailing, body shop finish work, or clear coat correction where you need noticeable cut without jumping straight to an overly aggressive product, this is the kind of compound that earns its shelf space.

The big story here is where it fits in the polishing process. Polarshine 20 is optimized to remove defects, sanding marks, and similar surface issues while still leaving a very high gloss surface behind. That matters because some compounds cut fast but leave you with extra haze and more cleanup work. This one is designed to give you correction first, then set you up for refinement instead of forcing you to backtrack.

Mirka calls this a water-soluble polishing compound, which is useful in real shop conditions. It helps with workability and cleanup, especially when you are running through multiple panels or trying to keep your process consistent across fresh paint. The listed pH range of 7-9 and VOC content of 16.0% are also useful shop specs for buyers who pay attention to what they are using day in and day out.

For users who care about abrasive behavior, the abrasive material is aluminum oxide and the compound is medium coarse with a grit number of 1500. In practical terms, that points to a compound meant for meaningful correction rather than just final jeweling. It is the stage where you deal with the problem, not just make a decent finish look slightly better.

The 1.1 qt (1 liter) bottle size is right in the sweet spot for regular shop use. It gives you enough product for repeated correction work without stepping all the way up to oversized bulk packaging. At roughly 2.71 lbs listed weight, it is substantial enough for bench or cart use but still easy to move around the shop or keep with your polishing setup.

Mirka specifically notes that if you want a hologram-free and superior high gloss finish, especially on dark colors, Polarshine 5 should be used as the last step after this compound. That tells you exactly how this product is intended to work: Polarshine 20 is the correction stage, not the final refinement stage. For pros, that is good information because it helps you build a repeatable two-step polishing process instead of guessing your way through a finish.

This compound makes the most sense for automotive detailers, paint correction specialists, collision repair shops, and serious DIY users working on clear coat finishes. If your main goal is defect removal on newer or softer clear coats and you want a compound that cuts while still keeping the finish headed in the right direction, this is a smart fit. If you only need a last-step finishing polish, this is more aggressive than you need.
