Compact Power The Makita GPH02Z 40V max XGT Compact Brushless Cordless 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill puts 585 in-lbs of max torque in a body that measures just 7-1/8 inches long. That matters when you're drilling or driving overhead, inside cabinets, or between framing members. Two-Speed Control With 0-550 and 0-2,200 RPM, plus hammer action up to 33,000 BPM, this hammer drill covers fast driving, clean drilling, and masonry work without forcing you into a one-speed compromise. Built For Jobsites XPT dust and water resistance, a reinforced gear housing, and an all-metal gear transmission give this drill-driver the durability serious users want when the work is rough and the conditions are not clean.

Overview

Makita GPH02Z 40V max XGT Compact Brushless Cordless 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill, Tool Only is a compact cordless hammer drill built for drilling and driving in wood, metal, and masonry. This is a hammer driver-drill designed for drilling holes and driving fasteners in demanding jobsite applications. Model Number: GPH02Z. If you need one tool that can handle general drilling, fastener work, and light concrete or masonry drilling without taking up a lot of room on your belt or in a cabinet, this is exactly the lane it fits.

The big selling point here is how much performance Makita packed into a short body. The brushless motor delivers up to 585 in-lbs of max torque, and the 2-speed transmission gives you a low range of 0-550 RPM and a high range of 0-2,200 RPM. On the hammer side, it runs at 0-8,250 and 0-33,000 BPM, so you can shift from controlled driving and larger-hole drilling to faster drilling in wood, steel, or masonry. In practical terms, that means better control when you need finesse and enough speed when you need productivity.

The compact 7-1/8 inch overall length is not just a brochure number. It makes a real difference when you're working between studs, inside mechanical rooms, above your head, or under sinks and counters. A full-size hammer drill can get awkward in those spots fast. This one keeps the nose shorter, which helps you stay square to the work and makes the tool less tiring to hold through a long day.

Makita also built this one with real jobsite durability in mind. The reinforced gear housing and all-metal gear transmission are there for a reason: repeated drilling, driving, and transport abuse are hard on compact tools. Those parts help the GPH02Z hold up better when it is part of everyday trade work instead of occasional weekend use. The brushless motor also helps by reducing wear items compared to brushed designs.

For rough conditions, Makita's XPT protection matters. The tool is engineered for increased dust and water resistance, which is important if you're drilling overhead in dusty framing work, running anchors in masonry, or working through punch-list tasks in mixed indoor and outdoor conditions. XGT digital communication also actively monitors and protects against overload, over-discharge, and overheating. That gives the tool and battery system a smarter, more controlled way to manage heavy-load work.

This drill runs on the Makita 40V max XGT platform, so it is a good fit for users already invested in XGT batteries and chargers or anyone building into Makita's higher-demand cordless system. The XGT interface is designed for more constant power delivery under heavy current draw, and Makita specifically calls out up to 2X longer sustained power under heavy-load applications. That is the kind of system advantage you notice when you're leaning on the tool instead of just using it for occasional pilot holes.

The Makita GPH02Z 40V max XGT Compact Brushless Cordless 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill is a smart buy for remodelers, electricians, plumbers, maintenance pros, and serious DIY users who want one compact impact-ready companion for drilling and fastening tasks. It is especially useful if you need a cordless hammer drill that can move from wood studs to steel to masonry without taking up the space or weight of a larger framing-focused drill. Just keep in mind this is a tool-only version, so battery and charger are sold separately.

Compact Size That Works Better in Tight Spots

Short front-to-back length is one of the first things you notice on a drill like this, and it is one of the reasons people reach for it every day. Less bulk up front means better access, better balance, and less fighting the tool when the workspace is cramped.

• Overall length is only 7-1/8 inches
• Good fit for cabinets, framing bays, service work, and overhead drilling

Speed Range for Drilling, Driving, and Masonry Work

This is not a one-note drill-driver. The two-speed gearbox and hammer function let you slow down for control, spin up for production drilling, or switch modes when the job turns to block, brick, or concrete.

• Two speed ranges: 0-550 RPM and 0-2,200 RPM
• Hammer action: 0-8,250 BPM and 0-33,000 BPM
• 1/2 inch keyless chuck handles common drilling and driving setups
