Smart RPM SetupThe touchscreen helps dial in speed based on tool type, size, and material, so you spend less time guessing and more time drilling clean, repeatable holes. Big Drill Press CapacityA 20 inch swing and 6 inch spindle travel give this floor drill press the reach for larger workpieces and deeper drilling without outgrowing the machine too fast. Built for PrecisionElectronic and manual depth stops, crosshair lasers, and integrated LED lighting make it easier to line up holes and hit consistent depth on repeat work.

Overview

The JET JDP-20S 20 Inch Smart Drill Press is a heavy-duty floor drill press built for serious drilling accuracy in woodshops, school shops, and professional workspaces. This is a floor drill press designed for precision hole drilling, repeatable depth work, and adjustable speed control. Model Number JT1-2060. If you want the capacity of a full-size press but also want modern speed guidance and digital control, this machine is aimed right at that gap.

What separates this drill press from a standard variable speed machine is the 5 inch touchscreen interface. Instead of relying only on feel and a speed chart, you can choose tool and material inputs and get guided RPM recommendations. JET also gives you 22 tool profiles and up to 15 user presets, which matters when you repeat the same operations over and over. In a production setting, a school environment, or a woodworking shop where consistency matters, that saves setup time and helps reduce bad holes caused by running the wrong speed.

The capacity is not small-shop entry level. With a 20 inch swing, 6 inch spindle travel, and a 5/8 inch keyed chuck, the JDP-20S is set up for larger stock and more demanding drilling tasks than compact bench models. The continuously variable 150 to 3000 RPM speed range gives it flexibility across different bit types and materials, while the 1-1/2 horsepower brushless motor is built to keep speed under load better than lighter-duty machines. JET also lists both 120V and 240V capability, with the unit prewired for 115V, which gives shops some installation flexibility.

On the mechanical side, this is still a real cast iron JET drill press, not just a digital screen bolted onto a light frame. The base and work table are cast iron, the table measures 20 inches by 14 inches, and it tilts 90 degrees left and right for angled drilling. That larger work surface helps support bigger panels, jigs, and awkward workpieces better than the smaller tables you see on many floor models. The 3.35 inch column and 220 pound net weight also tell you this machine is built around stability, which is a big deal when you want cleaner holes and less chatter.

JET also paid attention to repeatability and visibility. The combination of mechanical and electronic depth stops gives you two ways to control drilling depth depending on how you like to work. Crosshair lasers help with hole location, and the built-in LED light improves visibility at the bit. There is also real-time motor load tracking, which is useful when you are pushing larger bits and want feedback before you bog the machine down. Features like auto-start, reverse spindle rotation, and support for decimal, fractional, and metric measurement formats make the workflow more adaptable for different users and job types.

From a jobsite practicality standpoint, this is not a portable tool and it is not pretending to be. This is a floor-standing shop machine for users who want more control, more drilling capacity, and more consistency than a small drill press can offer. The password lock feature is also a smart addition for shared spaces like schools, training shops, or multi-user production areas where you may want to restrict settings access.

Who should buy it? The JET JDP-20S 20 Inch Smart Drill Press makes sense for serious woodworkers, cabinet shops, furniture makers, school programs, and pro users who do a lot of precise drilling and want setup help without giving up the feel of a real cast iron machine. If your work involves repeat hole depth, angled drilling, larger workpieces, or frequent bit changes across materials, this machine gives you real advantages. If you just need a light-duty press for occasional weekend use, it is probably more machine than you need. But if accuracy, capacity, and workflow matter, this one earns its footprint.

Pro Tip

If you are running repeat holes in the same material, save that setup as one of the 15 presets after you dial in depth and speed. On a machine like this, presets are not a gimmick, they are a real time-saver when you bounce between common bit sizes and stock thicknesses.

JET JDP-20S 20 Inch Smart Drill Press for shops that actually care about setup time

This is a big, heavy, full-featured drill press that mixes old-school cast iron stability with smart controls that actually make sense.

• Who it's for: Woodworkers, school programs, and pro shops that do repeat drilling, larger workpieces, or want more control than a basic floor drill press gives them.
• Why it stands out: The touchscreen RPM guidance, brushless motor, 20 inch swing, and combined digital and mechanical depth control give it more brains than most drill presses in this class.
• Worth knowing: At 220 pounds, this is a stationary shop machine, not something you move around casually. If you only drill the occasional hole, it is overkill. If precision and repeatability matter, the JET JDP-20S 20 Inch Smart Drill Press is a serious step up.
