Key Features

High Output DrillingThe DEWALT DCD806B hammer drill delivers up to 1,050 MWO with a 2-speed transmission, so it has the muscle for demanding drilling and fastening without stepping up to a larger, bulkier tool. Anti-Rotation ControlWhen a bit binds up, the anti-rotation system senses excessive rotational motion and shuts the tool down. That matters most when you are drilling masonry or using larger accessories that can catch hard. Jobsite VisibilityA 3-position LED work light with 70 lumens helps you see layout marks and fasteners in cabinets, mechanical rooms, and other dim spots where a regular drill light usually falls short.

Overview

The DEWALT DCD806B 20V MAX XR Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Hammer Drill is a cordless hammer drill built for demanding drilling, hammer drilling, and fastening work. This is a hammer drill designed for heavy-duty drilling in wood, metal, and masonry. Model Number: DCD806B. If you already run on the DEWALT 20V MAX platform and want a bare tool that brings real power without going to a bigger specialty drill, this is the one aimed at that user.

DEWALT positions this as its most powerful 20V MAX 2-speed hammer drill, and the numbers back up why it matters on the job. With up to 1,050 MWO, a 0-650 / 0-2,000 RPM 2-speed transmission, and up to 34,000 BPM, the DCD806B is built to handle a wide spread of work. That means slow-speed control for larger bits and fastening, plus enough top-end speed for production drilling and hammer mode work in masonry.

One of the biggest selling points here is control under load. The built-in anti-rotation system senses excessive rotational motion and shuts the tool down when the tool twists too hard. That is not a gimmick. It is the kind of feature you appreciate when a bit catches in block, old framing, or dense material and tries to walk your wrist with it. DEWALT also includes a red LED indicator so you know when that system has engaged.

The tool is set up the way most pros want a premium drill set up. You get a 1/2 in. metal ratcheting chuck for secure bit retention, a brushless motor for runtime and durability, forward and reverse controls, variable speed trigger control, and 14 clutch settings for more controlled fastening. The brushless motor matters because it keeps the package efficient and helps the tool stay productive through repeated use instead of feeling like it is straining once work gets repetitive.

Jobsite usability is also well thought out. The 3-position LED throws 70 lumens and includes auto shutoff, which is more useful than a basic trigger light when you are drilling above shoulder height, inside cabinets, or in utility spaces with poor lighting. The included belt hook is simple, but it is one of those details you miss fast when climbing ladders or moving room to room during punch work or service calls.

For platform users, the fit is straightforward. The DCD806B runs on the DEWALT 20V MAX battery system, and this version is sold as a bare tool, so the battery and charger are not included. It is also Tool Connect Chip Ready, which means you can add the DEWALT chip separately if your crew uses DEWALT's asset management setup for tracking and jobsite tool visibility.

This drill makes the most sense for remodelers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, punch list crews, and general contractors who need one cordless drill that can shift between anchor holes, wood boring, metal drilling, and fastening without feeling underpowered. Serious DIY users can absolutely use it too, but this is really aimed at buyers who are going to lean on it hard and want pro-level control, chuck quality, and safety features instead of just checking the box on basic drilling.

Built for Drilling That Pushes Back

When you are drilling masonry or running larger bits, control matters just as much as raw output. The DEWALT DCD806B 20V MAX XR Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Hammer Drill is designed to stay productive in tough material while giving the user more confidence when the bit starts to bind.

• Anti-rotation system shuts the tool down if rotational motion becomes excessive
• Hammer mode and up to 34,000 BPM help it move through masonry drilling tasks faster
• 2-speed transmission gives you low-speed torque and high-speed drilling in one tool

Compact Enough to Carry, Serious Enough to Work

This is still a bare-tool cordless hammer drill, but it is clearly built as a premium daily-use model. The metal chuck, brushless motor, clutch settings, and LED setup are the details that separate a jobsite drill from a basic homeowner option.

• 1/2 in. metal ratcheting chuck helps keep bits locked in securely
• 14 clutch settings give better control during fastening work
• 3-position 70-lumen LED helps in dim cabinets, utility rooms, and overhead work
