Overview

The Milwaukee THUNDERBOLT Titanium Drill Bit Set 29PC is a heavy-duty drill bit set for contractors, maintenance techs, and serious DIY users who need a broad range of common sizes in one case. This is a drill bit set designed for drilling holes in metal, wood, and plastics. Model Number: 48-89-0012. If you spend time switching between materials on the job, this set covers the basics from 1/16 inch up to 1/2 inch without making you chase loose bits around the truck or the bench.

What matters here is how the bits are built for actual use, not just how many are in the box. Milwaukee gives these THUNDERBOLT bits a 135 split point tip, which helps the bit bite sooner and start cleaner with less walking. On sheet metal, conduit straps, plastic housings, and wood stock, that makes hole placement easier and cuts down on the little corrections that waste time. The parabolic flute form is there for a reason too. It clears chips faster, which helps keep the bit cooler and keeps drilling moving instead of packing material into the flutes.

The titanium coating is also doing real work. According to Milwaukee, it reduces heat build-up and helps the cutting edge stay sharper for up to 3 times longer life. For anyone drilling repeated holes in metal or mixed materials, that means fewer burned-up bits and more consistent performance across the full set. The thicker core backs that up with added strength, which is especially important when bits get leaned on a little sideways in awkward positions. In plain terms, these are made to survive jobsite use better than a light-duty general-purpose set.

Another detail worth paying attention to is the 3-FLAT SECURE-GRIP shank design. Bit slip in the chuck is a pain, especially when you are stepping up hole sizes or drilling tougher material. Milwaukee built these to hold more securely in drill chucks, which helps with control and keeps the bit from spinning in the chuck under load. That is the kind of small feature that does not sound exciting until it saves you from chewing up a shank or losing accuracy halfway through a hole.

The case is more than packaging. This set comes organized in a customizable accessory case designed for use in PACKOUT. If you already run Milwaukee storage, that matters because it makes the set easier to integrate with the rest of your gear instead of tossing it in a drawer. The case also supports on-tool bit storage and adjustable rows, so it is built around access and organization, not just display. For crews and service techs who lose time hunting down one missing size, that is a practical upgrade.

Size coverage is another strong point. You get 29 individual bits ranging from 1/16 inch through 1/2 inch, including the common step-up sizes people reach for most often in fabrication, installation, maintenance, and general repair work. That makes this set a good fit for drilling pilot holes, enlarging holes, and handling everyday drilling tasks without bouncing between multiple cases. Since the bits are intended for use with drill drivers, the set fits easily into general-purpose drilling workflows on the jobsite or in the shop.

Who should buy it? This set makes the most sense for users who drill across several materials and want one organized Milwaukee bit set that covers the common sizes with better durability than bargain bits. It is a smart choice for metalworking, electrical rough-in, HVAC install, maintenance work, woodworking, and general contracting. If you need specialty bits for masonry or ultra-hard metals, this is not that set. But if your day-to-day work means drilling clean, accurate holes in metal, wood, and plastic, the Milwaukee THUNDERBOLT Titanium Drill Bit Set 29PC is the kind of set that earns a permanent spot in the kit.

• Who it's for: Contractors, installers, maintenance crews, and serious DIY users who drill in metal, wood, and plastic on a regular basis.
• Why it stands out: The split point tip, thicker core, parabolic flute, and secure-grip shank all solve real drilling problems like walking, breakage, chip packing, and chuck slip.
• Worth knowing: This is a general-purpose titanium drill bit set, not a masonry set or a specialty hard-metal solution. If your work is broad and everyday, though, this one makes a lot of sense.
