Key Features

Built for Wood with Nails This auger bit is made to keep drilling when the job is not perfect. It is designed for both clean wood and nail-embedded wood, so it makes sense for remodel work, rough framing, and repair jobs where hidden fasteners are part of the deal. Clean, Controlled Holes The two-step cutting action and dual cutting edge design help the bit start clean and stay smooth through the cut. That means less grabbing, better control, and a hole that needs less cleanup after drilling. Quick-Change Hex Shank The 7/16 in. hex shank is built for stability in corded and cordless drill drivers and impact drills. You get a more secure fit and faster bit changes when you are moving from hole to hole.

Overview

The Diablo DAG1090 3/4 in. x 7-1/2 in. Auger Bit for Wood and Nail-Embedded Wood is a jobsite-focused auger bit for fast, controlled drilling in framing lumber and other wood materials where nails may still be present. This is a wood auger bit designed for drilling clean, precise holes in wood and nail-embedded wood. Model Number: DAG1090. If you are roughing in wiring, plumbing, or general framing work and do not want to baby your bit every time you hit old material, this is the kind of accessory that earns its spot in the bag.

What matters here is not just the 3/4 in. diameter and 7-1/2 in. working length. It is how the bit is built to stay productive in real lumber. Diablo uses a Dura-Tip self-feeding tip, a two-step cutting action, and a dual cutting edge design so the bit starts clean, tracks better, and keeps moving through the cut with less fight from the operator. That is a practical advantage when you are drilling repeated holes through studs, joists, blocking, or patch material that may have buried nails.

The deep flutes are a big part of why this bit works well in the field. Chip removal is what keeps an auger bit drilling instead of heating up and packing itself tight in the hole. By clearing waste faster, the bit stays more efficient and helps you get more holes done per battery charge on a cordless setup. That matters when you are overhead, on a ladder, or moving room to room and do not want every hole to turn into a slow grind.

The 7/16 in. hex quick-change shank is another detail that makes sense on the job. It is sized for a secure interface in compatible corded and cordless drill drivers and impact drills, so you get solid engagement with less slop under load. Faster changes are nice, but the bigger benefit is stability. When you are leaning on a bit through structural wood, a stable connection helps the tool feel more predictable.

This Diablo auger bit is an individual piece, not a set, so it is aimed at the buyer who needs a specific hole size and wants a bit dedicated to tough wood drilling. It is a good fit for electricians boring pass-through holes, plumbers opening up framing for pipe runs, remodelers working in older structures, and carpenters dealing with mixed-condition lumber. It is also a smart upgrade for serious DIY users who are tired of standard wood bits getting knocked out early by nails and dirty stock.

Bottom line: this is not a general-purpose twist bit pretending to do rough work. It is a purpose-built auger bit meant for wood drilling where speed, chip clearing, and nail tolerance matter. If your work regularly involves framing lumber, repair work, or remodel conditions, the Diablo DAG1090 gives you a cleaner, more reliable way to bore 3/4 in. holes without slowing down every time the wood gets ugly.
