Key Features

Built for Wood with Nails This Diablo DAG3100 auger bit is made to keep drilling in clean wood and nail-embedded wood. That matters when rough framing, remodeling, or repair work turns up hidden fasteners that would stop a standard wood bit. 7/16 in. Hex Shank The quick-change hex shank seats securely in compatible drill drivers and impact tools for better stability. Less slip at the connection means more control when the bit starts pulling itself through the cut. Deep Flute Chip Clearing Deep flutes move chips out fast so the bit stays cutting instead of packing up. On long holes through studs, beams, and blocking, that helps the tool run cleaner and waste less battery.

Overview

The Diablo DAG3100 auger bit is a 15/16 in. x 17-1/2 in. wood-boring bit built for drilling through clean wood and nail-embedded wood. This is an auger bit designed for fast, controlled hole drilling in framing lumber, beams, studs, and other wood stock where hidden nails are a real possibility. Model Number: DAG3100. If you need one bit for rough wood drilling instead of babying a cleaner-cut specialty bit, this is the right kind of tool.

What makes this auger drill bit useful on the job is the way Diablo built the cutting end. The two-step cutting action is there to start the hole cleanly, while the dual cutting edge design keeps the cut moving with less chatter and less fighting from the operator. In practical terms, that means faster boring through dimensional lumber and a better shot at getting through reclaimed or patched material without immediately trashing the bit.

The Dura-Tip self-feeding point is the part many users will care about most. Once it bites, it helps pull the bit forward so you are not forcing the tool through every inch of wood. That matters on longer bores where feed pressure and tool control make the difference between a smooth hole and a stall. It also helps when boring through stacked studs or thick members for wiring, plumbing, or fastening access.

Deep flutes are another jobsite feature that actually earns its keep. On a long auger bit, chip removal is not a minor detail. If chips do not clear, the bit heats up, binds, and slows the whole operation down. Diablo calls out enhanced chip removal and more holes per charge, which lines up with how this style of flute helps cordless users keep momentum during repetitive drilling.

The 7/16 in. hex quick-change shank gives this wood auger bit a more secure interface with compatible corded and cordless drill drivers and impact tools. That extra stability matters once a self-feeding bit starts pulling hard into material. It is a better setup for rough drilling than a smaller round shank, especially when you are leaning into framing work, electrical rough-in, plumbing runs, or general remodeling.

As a 17-1/2 in. auger bit, the Diablo DAG3100 also gives you the reach needed for deeper bores through wall assemblies, thicker timbers, and offset access holes. That longer body helps when you need to stay square while clearing multiple members, and it saves time compared to stepping up from a short bit or changing tools mid-task.

This is not a fine-finish woodworking bit meant for cabinet-grade precision. It is a production-minded boring accessory for contractors, remodelers, electricians, plumbers, and serious DIY users who need speed, durability, and the ability to handle ugly material. If your work regularly includes rough framing, old lumber, or wood with embedded nails, this auger bit makes a lot more sense than using a cleaner but more fragile alternative.

Keep Drilling Through Real-World Lumber

The Diablo DAG3100 auger bit is built for the kind of lumber you actually run into on site, not just perfect clean stock. When rough framing, repairs, and remodel work bring hidden nails into the cut, the bit's cutting geometry and durable tip help you keep moving instead of swapping bits.

• Designed for clean wood and nail-embedded wood applications
• Two-step cutting action helps produce precise, clean holes
• Dura-Tip self-feeding point helps the bit pull through material
• Dual cutting edges support smoother boring in demanding wood drilling jobs

Pro Tip

Let the self-feeding tip do the work and back the bit out occasionally on deep holes to clear chips. That keeps the flutes from packing up and gives you a straighter, faster bore through stacked framing.
