Overview

The Milwaukee 2627-20 M18 Cut Out Tool is a cordless cut-out tool built for fast drywall cut-outs, outlet box openings, and similar detail cutting on the jobsite. This is a cut-out tool designed for drywall cutting and wall opening work. Model Number: 2627-20. If you already run Milwaukee M18 batteries, this bare tool gives you a compact way to make quicker, cleaner cut-outs without dragging a cord around the room.

Its 4-pole motor spins at 28,000 RPM, which matters because cut-out tools live or die by speed and control. Higher speed helps the bit track more cleanly around outlet boxes and fixture openings instead of bogging down mid-cut. Milwaukee also claims up to 20% faster cuts than competing tools, so the focus here is simple: get in, trace the opening, and move on.

One of the better real-world features on this tool is the tool-free depth adjustment. On a cut-out tool, depth setup is not just a convenience feature. It affects cut quality, speed, and how confident you feel around what is behind the wall surface. Being able to adjust depth quickly helps when you are bouncing between different wall materials or trying to keep the bit set just where it needs to be for drywall work.

Milwaukee also built in a few jobsite-friendly details that matter more than they sound on paper. The top vent is designed to blow debris away from the user, which helps keep the cut line more visible and keeps dust from being pushed straight back at your face. There is also an LED light for working in dim rooms, partially finished spaces, and remodel areas where lighting is not ideal. The belt clip is another small but useful touch when you are climbing ladders, moving room to room, or switching between layout and cutting.

On the electronics side, REDLINK intelligence provides overload protection to defend against abusive situations. That matters on a cordless drywall cut-out tool because these tools can get leaned on pretty hard when users are moving fast. Instead of just chasing raw speed, Milwaukee backed it up with protection meant to help the tool hold up under repeated use.

The platform fit is straightforward. This tool runs on the Milwaukee M18 battery system and is compatible with all M18 batteries and chargers. That makes the Milwaukee 2627-20 M18 Cut Out Tool a sensible add-on for anyone already invested in M18, especially drywall crews, remodelers, electricians doing cut-ins, and general contractors who want one battery platform across the truck.

Size and weight also play in its favor. At 8.9 inches long and 1.8 lbs, it is compact enough to work one-handed in tight spots and light enough to stay comfortable during repetitive overhead or wall work. Best fit is the user who needs a dedicated cordless cut-out tool for drywall and outlet box cutting, not someone looking for a do-everything rotary tool. For that job, this is the right kind of specialized tool.

Cut Openings Faster on Finished Walls

This is where a cordless cut-out tool earns its keep. Instead of wrestling with a larger saw for small openings, you can trace boxes and cut-outs directly in place with better speed and less setup.

• 4-pole motor delivers 28,000 RPM for fast drywall cutting
• Designed for outlet boxes and similar wall openings

Set Depth Without Breaking Stride

Quick depth changes make a difference when you are doing repetitive cut-ins. The tool-free adjustment helps you stay moving and keep the bit set for the material in front of you.

• Tool-free depth adjustment for quicker setup changes
• Compact 8.9 inch body is easier to handle in tight interior spaces

Better Control in Real Jobsite Conditions

Cut-out work usually happens in half-finished rooms with dust, low light, and awkward body positions. Features like the LED light, debris-clearing vent, and lightweight body help this tool stay useful when the room is not clean or well lit.

• LED light helps with visibility in dim work areas
• Top vent blows debris away from the user
