Key Features

Reversible Operation Run the cutting wheel in either direction, letting you position the tool for the cleanest angle of attack on the cut instead of fighting tool orientation. 3-Position Flexible Head The head pivots to three positions, opening up access in tight underbody and engine-bay spots a fixed-head cut-off tool can't reach. 3-in. Disc Capacity Sized to cut muffler clamps and hangers, sheet metal, radiator hose clamps, bumper bolts, and steel rod up to 3/4-in. thick. Metal Disc Guard A durable metal guard shields the operator from sparks and debris without adding bulk to the tool's already tight profile.

Overview

The SP Air SP-7231R is a reversible flex head cut-off tool built for cutting through muffler clamps, hangers, bumper bolts, sheet metal, and steel rod up to 3/4-in. thick in spots a rigid cut-off tool can't reach. It runs a 3-in. disc at 12,000 RPM free speed, giving it enough surface speed to cut clean without stalling in thicker material.

Two features set the SP-7231R apart from a standard cut-off tool. First, the three-position flexible head lets you angle the cutting wheel to the job instead of contorting your arm to get the tool where it needs to be a real difference under a vehicle or behind a bumper. Second, the reversible design lets the wheel spin in either direction, so you can approach a cut from whichever side gives you the cleanest line and the most control, rather than being locked into one rotation.

The tool carries a cushion grip handle, rear exhaust, and a built-in power regulator so you can dial air delivery at the tool itself, plus a graduated trigger and safety throttle lever for progressive speed control instead of an on/off jolt. A metal guard protects the operator from sparks and disc fragments during use. Direct drive construction keeps the tool responsive and eliminates the extra bulk of a gear-reduction housing.

At 2.8 lbs and 8.8 in. overall length, it's built to be carried and repositioned constantly rather than set down between cuts the kind of tool that lives in an exhaust or auto body tech's cart, not a drawer.

This is a pneumatic cut-off tool designed for exhaust and undercar repair, auto body work, and light fabrication where standard bolt cutters or a full-size angle grinder are too clumsy for the access.

Flexes to the Cut, Not the Other Way Around

The three-position flexible head and reversible wheel rotation mean you position the SP-7231R to the cut instead of forcing the cut to fit the tool's angle.

• Cuts muffler clamps, hangers, radiator hose clamps, and bumper bolts
• Handles sheet metal and steel rod up to 3/4-in. thick
• Reversible rotation for approaching a cut from either side

Pro Tip

Reposition the three-position flex head before you commit to a cut, not mid-cut set the angle that lets the disc meet the clamp or bolt squarely, then use the reversible rotation to approach from whichever side keeps the guard clear of the surrounding panel.

Warranty & Support

SP Air backs the SP-7231R with a one (1) year limited warranty against manufacturing defects from date of purchase. Warranty service is handled through SP Air's authorized U.S. repair center, Power Tool Repair (Tallmadge, OH); proof of purchase is required.

The Cut-Off Tool for Spots You Can't Get Square To

The SP Air SP-7231R earns its keep on the jobs where you can't line up a straight cut its flex head and reversible wheel do the positioning so you don't have to.

• Who it's for: Exhaust and undercar techs, auto body pros, and anyone regularly cutting clamps, hangers, and bolts in cramped access.
• Why it stands out: The combination of a three-position flex head and reversible rotation is uncommon on a compact cut-off tool at this size.
• Worth knowing: It's rated to 3/4-in. steel rod for thicker stock or heavier fabrication cutting, step up to a larger cut-off wheel or saw.

Common Questions

• What disc size does the SP-7231R use? A 3-in. cutting disc.
• What's the thickest material it can cut? Steel rod up to 3/4-in. thick, per SP Air's stated capacity; it also cuts muffler clamps, hangers, sheet metal, radiator hose clamps, and bumper bolts.
• What does "reversible" mean on this tool? The cutting wheel can run in either rotational direction, letting you approach a cut from either side.
• Does the head move? Yes, it flexes to three positions for access in tight spots.
