Overview

The Makita VL001GZ 40V max XGT Brushless Vibratory Screed Power Head is a cordless power head for vibratory screeding and floating fresh concrete. This is a vibratory concrete screed designed for leveling and consolidating slabs, sidewalks, driveways and patios. The model number is VL001GZ, and it ships as the power head only. The 3 ft., 4-1/2 ft. and 6 ft. screed bars, batteries and charger are sold separately.

The power head drives the screed bar at 11,000 vibrations per minute. That vibration levels the pour faster and improves compaction compared to hand screeding with a straightedge, so you work the slab to grade with fewer passes and less back strain. The lightweight aluminum screed bar delivers uniform end-to-end vibration across its length.

Going cordless removes the gas engine, the fuel and the pull starts that come with a typical vibratory screed. Makita rates run time at over 2 hours with a fully charged 40V max XGT 4.0Ah High Power Battery. A lock-on button holds the motor running during long passes, and the rubber grip reduces vibration transferred to your hands.

Concrete is hard on tools, and the VL001GZ is built for it. A battery cover protects the pack against concrete intrusion, and Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) improves dust and water resistance for harsh conditions. The lever-style lock system swaps screed bars without tools so you can match the bar to the form width.

The tool weighs 8.7 lbs. with battery and measures 58-1/2 in. long. It runs on Makita 40V max XGT batteries, and XGT digital communication protects against overload, over-discharge and overheating while optimizing power under heavy load.

Who should buy it: concrete flatwork contractors, general contractors pouring their own slabs, landscapers and hardscape crews setting pads, and serious DIYers pouring patios and walks who want a flatter, denser surface than a hand screed delivers.

Levels Fresh Concrete Faster

11,000 VPM vibrates the bar across the pour so the slab levels and consolidates in fewer passes.

• 11,000 vibrations per minute
• Uniform end-to-end vibration with aluminum bars
• Improved compaction vs. hand screeding

Swap Bars Without Tools

The lever-style lock system lets you change between 3 ft., 4-1/2 ft. and 6 ft. bars in seconds.

• Tool-less screed bar installation
• Fits 3 ft., 4-1/2 ft. and 6 ft. bars (sold separately)
• Aluminum screed bar type

Protected From Concrete

A battery cover keeps wet concrete out of the battery interface, and XPT seals improve dust and water resistance.

• Battery cover against concrete intrusion
• Extreme Protection Technology (XPT)
• Brushless motor

Comfortable Through Long Pours

The rubber grip reduces vibration, and the lock-on button keeps the motor running so your hand can relax.

• Rubber grip reduces vibration
• Lock-on button for continuous operation
• 8.7 lbs. with battery

Pro Tip

Pick the shortest bar that spans your forms. A bar that hangs well past the forms is harder to keep level, while one that just rides both forms lets the vibration do the work. Let the vibration pull the bar along at a steady walk instead of pushing it.
