Overview

The DEWALT 20V MAX Lithium-Ion 3.0Ah Battery with 12V to 20V MAX Charger, Model DCB230C, is a battery and charger kit built for DEWALT cordless tools. This is a battery and charger set designed for powering and charging DEWALT 20V MAX cordless tools. If you need a practical everyday pack for keeping a drill, sander, saw, or other DEWALT cordless tool ready to work, this kit covers the basics without taking up much space.

The big story here is balance. The included 3.0Ah compact battery gives you more runtime than a smaller starter pack, but it stays lighter and shorter than larger packs that can make a tool feel nose-heavy or awkward in tight work. DEWALT specifically calls out that it delivers the same runtime and power in a lighter, shorter package compared to the DCB200, and that kind of difference matters when the tool is in your hand for long stretches or overhead work.

On the battery side, the lithium-ion design means no memory effect and very low self-discharge, so it is a better fit for real jobsite use and shop use than older battery styles that lose charge sitting around. The built-in 3-LED fuel gauge lets you check remaining charge before you start a task, which is a simple feature but one that saves time. Instead of grabbing a tool and hoping the pack is still good, you get a quick answer right on the battery.

The included charger is set up to charge DEWALT 12V MAX and 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries, which makes this kit more useful than a one-battery solution. It also uses an LED diagnostic indicator to show charging status and battery temperature information. That is helpful when a battery is not ready to charge immediately because it is too hot or too cold after use. You get clearer feedback instead of wondering whether the charger or pack has a problem.

Charge time is listed at about 45 minutes for a 20V 3Ah battery, which is a strong number for a compact pack. In plain terms, that means this setup works well for rotation use: one battery on the tool, one on the charger, and less waiting between tasks. For contractors, maintenance crews, and serious DIY users, that matters more than flashy specs because it directly affects how often work stops.

Compatibility is another reason this kit makes sense. The battery is part of the DEWALT 20V MAX system and is also noted as compatible with all DEWALT 20V and 60V MAX batteries in the charger highlights, while the charger handles DEWALT 12V MAX to 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries. If you are already on DEWALT, this is an easy way to add capacity without changing platforms. If you are just getting started, it is a straightforward entry point into a very broad cordless lineup.

Who should buy it? This is a smart fit for anyone who wants a compact DEWALT 20V MAX battery for general fastening, sanding, cutting, service work, punch-list jobs, and shop tasks. It is especially useful for users who care more about manageable size and dependable runtime than maximum amp-hour numbers. If your tools are already in the DEWALT cordless system and you want a daily-driver battery with a charger included, this kit is the practical choice.
