Gas-Class Cutting PowerThe Makita chain saw uses a brushless motor with output comparable to a 42cc gas saw, so you get serious cutting power without pull starts, fuel mixing, or engine maintenance. Fast Chain SpeedWith variable speed control and up to 5,020 feet per minute chain speed, it cuts quickly when you're trimming limbs, bucking logs, or cleaning up storm damage. Less DowntimeTool-less chain adjustment, automatic chain lubrication, and a large oil fill port make routine setup and maintenance quicker, especially when you're moving between cuts.

Overview

Makita 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 18" Chain Saw Kit (5.0Ah) is a cordless rear-handle chain saw kit built for cutting and trimming without the mess and upkeep of gas equipment. This is a cordless chain saw designed for cutting and trimming applications. Model Number GCU06T1. If you want the convenience of battery power but still need real cutting performance, this saw is aimed right at that gap.

The big story here is output. Makita rates the brushless motor at power equivalent to a 42cc gas chain saw, which puts this well beyond light-duty pruning territory. Pair that with a variable speed trigger and chain speed up to 5,020 feet per minute, and you get a saw that is built to move through wood efficiently instead of feeling like a compromise. For contractors, landscapers, property owners, and serious DIY users, that means less waiting on the cut and less wrestling with underpowered cordless outdoor power equipment.

The 18-inch guide bar gives this saw the reach to handle substantial cutting work while still staying manageable as a single-battery platform tool. Makita includes an 18-inch sprocket nose guide bar plus a 3/8 inch low-profile, .050 inch gauge chain, so the saw is set up with the core cutting hardware it needs right out of the box. The rear-handle layout and rubberized soft-grip top handle are built for controlled pressure through the cut, which matters when you are making repeated limbing and trimming cuts and want the saw to track predictably.

Makita kept the day-to-day ownership side practical. Tool-less chain adjustment makes it easier to dial in tension without hunting for extra tools. Adjustable automatic chain lubrication with a large oil reservoir helps keep the bar and chain fed during use, and the large oil filling port with view window makes it easier to top off and monitor bar oil level before you run dry. Those are simple details, but they matter on a job where wasted time usually comes from setup, checking, and small maintenance interruptions.

On the protection side, this saw includes Active Feedback-Sensing Technology, which electronically shuts off the motor if the chain rotation is suddenly forced to stop. It also features Makita Extreme Protection Technology for improved dust and water resistance, and the product imagery calls out IPX4 weather-resistant construction. Taken together, those features make more sense on a real jobsite than in a brochure. They help the saw hold up better in outdoor conditions where dirt, moisture, and changing loads are just part of the day.

This kit is part of the Makita 40V max XGT platform, which is a big deal if you are already in XGT or planning to build around it. Makita's digital communication between the tool and battery is designed to monitor and protect against overload, over-discharge, and overheating. That is not just a system talking point. In actual use, it helps the saw keep delivering power under heavy load while also protecting the battery investment. The included 5.0Ah battery and rapid charger mean this is a working kit, not just a bare tool entry point.

Who is this for? If you are a landscaper, contractor, property maintenance pro, or homeowner who wants to get away from gas starts, engine maintenance, and mixed fuel, this makes a lot of sense. If you only cut a branch or two once a year, it may be more saw than you need. But if you want a cordless chain saw that can handle regular trimming, storm cleanup, and firewood-sized cutting with less noise and lower maintenance, this Makita setup is in the sweet spot.

Cut Without the Gas Headache

For a lot of users, the best part of going cordless is not having to deal with gas at all. No pull cord, no mixed fuel, and less routine maintenance between uses.

• Brushless motor delivers power equivalent to a 42cc gas chain saw
• Lower noise and zero emissions make it easier to use around homes, properties, and enclosed work areas where gas is a hassle

Keep the Chain Working Smoothly

The bar and chain setup matters just as much as raw motor power. Makita includes the saw with the proper 18-inch cutting setup, and the chain design shown here is built to help oil move along the bar while keeping friction in check.

• Includes 18 inch sprocket nose guide bar
• Includes 3/8 inch low-profile pitch, .050 inch gauge chain

Makita 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 18" Chain Saw Kit (5.0Ah) Built for Faster Setup

This saw is set up for the kind of details that save time during actual use. You can tension the chain without extra tools, keep an eye on oil level through the window, and get back to work without turning basic maintenance into a project.

• Tool-less chain adjustment for operation and maintenance
• Adjustable automatic chain lubrication with large oil reservoir and large oil fill port with view window

Pro Tip

Use the oil view window before every battery swap. On a cordless chain saw like this, it is easy to focus on battery charge and forget bar oil, but proper lubrication does more to protect the bar and chain than squeezing in one more cut.

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

A real cordless chain saw, not a trimmed-down substitute

The Makita 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 18" Chain Saw Kit (5.0Ah) hits the mark for users who want gas-type performance without the usual gas-tool nonsense.

• Who it's for: Landscapers, contractors, property owners, and serious DIY users who need an 18 inch battery chain saw for regular trimming and cutting, not just occasional branch cleanup.
• Why it stands out: The 42cc gas-equivalent output, 5,020 FPM chain speed, tool-less adjustment, and full XGT system support give it the kind of performance and convenience that make cordless worth switching to.
• Worth knowing: This is a kit with a 5.0Ah battery and charger included, but it still weighs more once the battery is installed. That tradeoff is normal at this power level, and most pros will take the extra weight if it means stronger cutting.
