Saw Chain Sharpening Set uses a comfortable round file handle with a secure grip, so you get better control during hand sharpening and less fumbling on the job or around the property.

Overview

The Milwaukee 4pc 5/32 in. Saw Chain Sharpening Set is a chainsaw sharpening set built for maintaining compatible saw chains with fast hand filing. This is a chainsaw sharpening set designed for restoring chain edges and keeping cuts efficient with less downtime. Model number 49-16-2881. If you run a chainsaw regularly and want a simple field or shop solution instead of dragging out a powered sharpener, this kit gives you the basics you actually need.

What makes this set useful is how straightforward it is. Milwaukee built it around fast, easy file swaps, a round file handle with a secure grip, and an angle guide that helps maintain file position. In real use, that means less guesswork and more repeatable sharpening from tooth to tooth. Clean, even edges matter because a properly sharpened chain cuts faster, feeds smoother, and puts less strain on the saw.

The two included 5/32 in. round files are designed for fast sharpening and long life, with durable steel construction. That matters on a chainsaw accessory like this because the file is doing the real work. A file that cuts cleanly helps you touch up the chain instead of fighting it. Since the kit includes two files, you have a spare ready when one wears down.

The angle guide is one of the more practical pieces in the set. It is intended for use with 5/32 in. round files and includes 10, 25, 30, and 35 degree angle markings. For anyone who sharpens by hand, that is a big help. Instead of freehanding the angle and hoping for the best, you have a visual reference that helps keep the cutters more consistent across the chain.

Milwaukee also made the handle broadly useful. The handle fits all standard round files, and it is specifically noted for use with round files 5/32 in. and larger. That gives the set some flexibility beyond the included files. The grip is a practical upgrade over holding a bare file, especially if you are doing multiple touch-ups in a row or working outdoors where cold, gloves, and sawdust make control more important.

Compatibility is the key buying point here. This chainsaw sharpening tool kit is built for saw chains with 3/8 in. low profile pitch and .050 in. gauge, .325 in. low profile pitch, and 1/4 in. pitch. If that matches the chain you run, this is a simple, compact way to keep it cutting right. If your chain needs a different file diameter, this is not the set to grab, and that is worth knowing before you buy.

Who should buy it? Homeowners who maintain their own firewood saws, landowners who want a quick touch-up kit, and pros who like having a dedicated manual sharpening setup in the truck will all get value from it. It is especially useful for users who want faster chain maintenance without stepping up to a bench sharpener. Bottom line: this is a practical Milwaukee chainsaw sharpening set for people who already know that a sharp chain saves time, cuts cleaner, and makes the saw feel better immediately.

Pro Tip

Use the angle guide as your consistency check, not just your starting point. A few light, even strokes on each cutter with the same angle usually gives a better chain than over-filing one tooth and trying to catch the rest up.
