Key Features

Strips 1" per Second This cordless cable stripper removes covered conductor insulation at 1" per second, which Milwaukee rates at up to 4X faster than manual strippers. 0.5" to 2.1" Cable Range Six quick-connect adjustable bushings cover outer diameters from 0.5" to 2.1", so one kit handles aerial, 600V secondary, and medium-voltage cable. No Exposed Blades The blade stays inside the bushing, cutting down on knife lacerations, and AUTOSTOP kickback control stops over-rotation in a bind-up.

Overview

The Milwaukee 2937-21 M18 FUEL Covered Conductor Cable Stripper 3.0Ah Kit w/ Adjustable Bushings is a cordless power tool for utility linemen and electrical crews who end-strip insulated conductors. This is a cable stripper designed for removing insulation from aerial, 600V secondary, and medium-voltage covered conductor. Milwaukee calls it the industry's first cordless tool optimized for this job. Model Number 2937-21 is the complete kit: tool, battery, charger, six bushings, and a carrying case.

Speed is the obvious gain. The stripper removes covered conductor at 1" per second, up to 4X faster than manual strippers by Milwaukee's numbers. Milwaukee's own timing puts a 500 MCM 15kV XLPE underground cable at about 4 seconds and a 795 MCM tree wire at about 36 seconds. Over a full day of terminations or splices, that adds up to real time back and far less wear on wrists and forearms.

The adjustable bushing system is what makes one tool cover a wide range of cable. Six bushings span 0.5" to 2.1" outer diameter, and each one fine-tunes with a diameter lever and a separate blade setting, so you match the bushing to the cable and the blade depth to the insulation. Milwaukee's charts cover conductors from #2 AWG through 1000 kcmil at 600V, 15kV, 25kV, and 35kV insulation levels. Quick-connect, two-finger release bushings swap fast when you move from one cable size to the next.

Consistent strip length matters for connectors and splices. The adjustable depth gauge sets strip length up to 6" and prevents over- or under-stripping. When you need a longer strip, the gauge removes completely for unlimited strip length.

Safety is built into the design. There are no exposed blades, which Milwaukee says means fewer knife injuries than hand stripping with a lineman's knife. AUTOSTOP kickback control shuts the tool down if the cable binds, and the variable-speed trigger and optimized max RPM give you control at the start of each strip. The tool also has a forward/reverse/neutral trigger lock, a side handle, and a handle hook.

Under the housing is M18 FUEL technology: a POWERSTATE brushless motor for power in tough insulation, REDLINK PLUS intelligence for overload protection, and ONE-KEY for tool tracking, security, and inventory management. The pistol-grip layout keeps the tool maneuverable in tight vaults and up in the bucket.

The kit runs on the included M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT CP3.0 battery and ships with the M18 & M12 Multi-Voltage Charger. It is fully compatible with the Milwaukee M18 system, so batteries you already own for other M18 tools work here too.

Who should buy it? Utility line crews, underground distribution electricians, and contractors who strip medium-voltage and covered conductor regularly. If your crew still strips covered conductor by hand, this tool pays for itself in time and in injuries avoided.

Faster, Cleaner Strips at the Termination

Set the bushing, set the depth gauge, and pull the trigger. The tool strips insulation evenly around the conductor so terminations go on clean.

• Strips 1" per second
• Depth gauge up to 6", removable for longer strips

Built for Overhead and Aerial Work

Tree wire and spacer cable are where manual stripping is slowest and hardest on the hands. A cordless tool with no exposed blade keeps the work quick and controlled at height. Milwaukee also offers it as the 2937-20 tool only for crews already stocked with M18 batteries.

• Optimized for aerial, 600V secondary, and medium-voltage cable
• AUTOSTOP kickback control in a bind-up

Every Bushing in One Case

The kit carries the full bushing range in a dedicated case, so the right size is on the truck when the cable changes.

• Six bushings from 0.5" to 2.1"
• Replacement blade, depth gauge, and cable gauge included

Utility Line Work Underground Distribution Aerial / Tree Wire Medium-Voltage Terminations Splicing Electrical

Pro Tip

Use the included cable gauge to pick the bushing before you start, then set the blade with the blade lever. Milwaukee's setup calls for the blade edge about 1/16" from the conductor, which strips the insulation cleanly without scoring the strands.

Warranty & Support

Milwaukee 5-year tool warranty and 3-year battery warranty.

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

The Milwaukee 2937-21 M18 FUEL Covered Conductor Cable Stripper Kit Retires the Lineman's Knife

It strips covered conductor faster, more consistently, and with less risk than hand tools, and the kit covers the full 0.5" to 2.1" range out of the box.

• Who it's for: Utility line crews and electrical contractors stripping medium-voltage, underground, or aerial covered conductor every week.
• Why it stands out: 1" per second stripping, no exposed blade, and all six bushings in one case.
• Worth knowing: This is a specialized tool built for end-stripping covered conductor from 0.5" to 2.1" outer diameter. Match the bushing and blade setting to each cable before you strip.

Common Questions

• What cable sizes does it strip? Covered conductor from 0.5" to 2.1" outer diameter. Milwaukee's charts cover #2 AWG through 1000 kcmil at 600V, 15kV, 25kV, and 35kV insulation levels.
• How long a strip can it make? The depth gauge sets strip length up to 6". Remove it for extended strip lengths.
• Does it work with my existing M18 batteries? Yes. It is fully compatible with the M18 system.
