Fast Key AccessThe elevated key shelf and access zones make it easier to grab the size you need without fighting a tight folding pack. That saves time when you're moving between fasteners on service work. 270 Degree RangeKeys rotate up to 270 degrees for better reach and more leverage in awkward spots. You get more usable angles than a basic folding hex key set when clearance is tight. Built for Jobsite UseA full metal body, heat-treated alloy steel keys, and black oxide finish are there for one reason: better durability when the set lives in a pouch, pocket, or service bag every day.

Overview

The Milwaukee 48-22-2183 17-Piece Folding Hex Key Set - SAE & Metric is a compact folding hex key set built for service work, maintenance, assembly, and general fastening. This is a hex key set designed for driving and removing SAE and metric hex fasteners in tight spaces. Model Number: 48-22-2183. If you want one pocket-friendly set that covers both inch and metric sizes without digging through loose keys, this is the kind of setup that makes sense.

What matters most here is access. Milwaukee built this set around an elevated key shelf and handle access zones so individual keys are easier to grab and open. That sounds small until you're wearing gloves or bouncing between sizes on the job. The keys also rotate up to 270 degrees, which gives you more workable positions than a basic straight-fold design and helps when you're reaching around obstructions or trying to get extra turning force on a stubborn fastener.

The construction is aimed at real use, not toolbox display. The body is full metal for better durability under higher torque, and the keys are made from heat-treated alloy steel. That combination matters because folding hex sets take a beating: they get tossed in tool pouches, used one-handed, and leaned on harder than most loose L-keys. Milwaukee also uses a black oxide finish on the keys to resist rust and corrosion, which is a practical plus for plumbing, maintenance, and any work that sees damp conditions.

Milwaukee also got the day-to-day details right. The handle uses high-contrast, color-coded markings so size identification is faster at a glance. The chamfered key ends help the wrench seat into the fastener more easily, which cuts down on fumbling when you're working in recessed hardware or awkward positions. The ergonomic handle shape gives you a more comfortable grip when you're running multiple fasteners in a row.

Size coverage is solid for common service and install work. You get 9 SAE keys ranging from 5/64 inch to 1/4 inch and 8 metric keys from 1.5 millimeters to 8 millimeters. That makes this Milwaukee folding hex key set useful across bikes, machinery, fixtures, plumbing trim, equipment covers, and general repair tasks where both measurement systems show up. Instead of carrying separate loose-key rings, you get organized access in a compact format that fits comfortably in a pouch or pocket.

This is a good fit for plumbers, maintenance techs, mechanics, installers, and serious DIY users who want fast access and less clutter. If you mostly work at a bench and need maximum reach on every fastener, individual long-arm keys may still have the edge. But if you need a durable, grab-and-go folding allen wrench set that covers the common sizes and holds up to jobsite use, this one is easy to recommend.

Easy to Grab, Easy to Identify

This set is built to speed up one of the annoying parts of hex key work: finding and opening the right key. The elevated key shelf and clear size markings make it faster to get moving.

• High-contrast, color-coded markings help you identify sizes quickly
• Compact handle fits comfortably in a pocket or tool pouch

More Reach in Tight Spots

The 270 degree key rotation gives you more working angles when a wall, housing, or adjacent part gets in the way. That matters on machinery, equipment panels, and anything buried in a cramped space.

• Keys rotate up to 270 degrees for better access and torque
• Folding design keeps the set together while still giving useful range

Made for Everyday Carry

This is the kind of folding allen wrench set that earns a permanent spot in a service bag. It is compact enough to carry all day, but tough enough for repeated use on real installs and repairs.

• Full metal body is built for added durability under jobsite use
• Ergonomic handle shape improves comfort during repeated fastening

Better Fit in the Fastener

Small details matter with hex keys. Chamfered ends help guide the key into the fastener, which makes starts cleaner and cuts down on fumbling with recessed set screws and trim hardware.

• Chamfered key ends help with easier insertion into fasteners
• Black oxide finish helps resist rust and corrosion over time

Pro Tip

When you're working on set screws or recessed hardware, open the key only as far as you need instead of swinging it all the way out. On a folding set like this, that often gives you a better handle angle and keeps the body from hitting the surrounding trim or housing.

Milwaukee 48-22-2183 17-Piece Folding Hex Key Set - SAE & Metric Gets the Basics Right

This is a smart buy for anyone who wants both SAE and metric coverage in a compact set that is actually pleasant to use.

• Who it's for: Techs, plumbers, installers, mechanics, and homeowners who deal with hex fasteners regularly and want one grab-and-go folding set instead of loose keys rolling around a drawer.
• Why it stands out: The easy-access design, 270 degree key range, and full metal construction solve the three things that usually make folding hex sets frustrating: hard key selection, awkward access, and short service life.
• Worth knowing: A folding set is about convenience first. If you need extra reach for deep fasteners every day, long individual keys still have an advantage, but for carry, speed, and general service work, this Milwaukee set is the better everyday play.
